We have the same problem and it has been going for over a year. I have been able to block a number of these unsolicited telemarketing calls but phone now full. They ring every evening around 6PM and sometimes again around 8PM. This is often followed up with another call from an unknown number. I don't see why these numbers cannot be blocked by the telecom companies. It has resulted in our not answering our phone when it rings and letting it go to voicemail which is not good when friends call and are trying to contact us!

The phone rang. I answered with a greeting and identified myself. In response, there was a recorded voice message, then the call was terminated on the other side. I thought it was very weird. I wondered whether they were recording my voice and linking it to my number for some evil purpose? If voice recognition is to be used as an identifier, then this number must have millions of recorded voices matched to numbers filed away in their computer banks. I actually think that that is their current caper. Then they will sell it at some future point for some giant scam purpose. :-)

Be very careful how you answer these calls, (02) 9119 9055, it is a complete scam, apparently Telstra combined.

Got a call from them asking if I was the owner of the phone number. When I said yes, they proceeded to tell me they were from "Connected Telco" and that I was entitled to a discount on my bill. I am with Telstra and have never heard of Connected Telco. They did not ask for any identity verification which is required by law from Telco companies before speaking to the person. Hung up on them and did not receive a call back.

They call me constantly and if I don't say anything I get a recorded "goodbye" then they hang up. I was wondering if it is one of the scams that checks first to see if you answer, then leave a message saying you need to ring ....etc.. (scam no). It is very annoying.

Obvious scam. Answer with a confident voice and they hang up. What I don't know is how can I get some government agency to take an interest in reducing this type of nuisance. Any suggestions?

i am fed up with the phone company letting scammers pay for personal info they are not entitled to // my tip always look at number calling and don't answer if you don't recognise it // if it is a real call they will contact you through legitimate channels and government agencies never show their numbers nor do most private companies these days //

We have had numerous calls from this number over the last month, even though we have an unlisted number. Once, the Indian "gentleman" said he's from Telecom and that our internet is going to be cut off and that we need to log on to our computer and he will assist us. I hung up on him. He rang back and asked why I had hung up on him ... can you believe it! He's rung back several times but hasn't had much to say and has hung up on me! So annoying!

Like others we get the same calls. We let our answering machine take it and then hear a computer generated female voice saying, "Good bye." So annoying!
