I recently got a new number, haven't shared it much, only to friends and family, but they wouldn't tell me how they got my number...

Don’t pick it up - they keep on going in 2018. Luckily the call was from Sydney and I’m in Melbourne. They let the tel. ring for 2-3times and then hang up. Terrible job and I feel sorry for them - must have very strong nerves to work as a telemarketer. Secondly - I’m from Europe and our personal data protection laws would never allow this kind of things (selling numbers/exchanging emails or collecting personal information like your address unless it’s needed to actually transport smth etc).
During the “data” age our telephone nr, search engine info and emails are just money laying around for unethical and nasty corporations to pick them up.

Called me saying that he is from Mortgage Compare and hung up when I said I don't have one. How do they get our numbers? Is any other personal information compromised like this? How do we restrict such spammers other than blocking them after receiving the call. Any thoughts??? Should we complain about it somewhere?

Continue to call and not leave a message it has got so bad I do not answer any calls from numbers I do not know. I did use google to research insurance on the house and other items which result in these unsolicited calls. Very annoying

Called saying they want to decrease my mortgage rate. When I said I do not have one they hung up. Please do not give any personal information. If you say you own the place there will be calls from different numbers offering products for home owners.

Telemarketers - don't have a home loan but they continue to call... I also found I only started getting these telemarket calls since I used "compare the market" for my insurance.... so frustrating!
