I got called by this number they said I qualified for discount electricity. She asked me for my address and I told her that I could tell her that my meter was a control 1 and 2 meter, but she insisted that she had to know my address to tell me my discount. I did tell her my address then and she then proceeded to rattle off numbers of what I was on and what the new rate would be with them (couldn't really take it in on the phone to analyse what she was saying); she then proceeded to tell me she was signing me up and that I had a 10 day cooling off period. I had to cut in and tell her that I didn't want to be signed up at all, she asked "why" and I asked her if she could email me what she was telling over the phone and she said they could only do that after I signed up. After pressing her further about it and saying I wasn't signing up till I could see the rates for myself, she finally told me she was from Alinta energy and the website for them. I did my own homework and for us they are not cheeper than what we are getting already.
So beware, if you give these guys your address they will sign you up without you actually agreeing to it!

Caller: an electricity provider comarison Male insistent for my address checked my meter type offered a "great deal" and said he was about to sign me up and wanted to read me the terms and conditions. I stopped him and asked for information about the provider if they were Australian were the money went. the answer was ambiguous and he moved off that subject very quickly. I had to say “do not sign me up, I want to read about the organisation first”. We will see what will becomes of the conversation. The web site he suggested does not come up 5 pages into a google search.

Received a call today and I could hear a tumble drier working whilst I listened to the caller. She robotically asked to confirm my address as I had recently asked for a better energy deal. Wrong! I informed her that I had not made such a call AND I was on the Do Not Call Register. Thank you for calling.

Answered and hung up before they even got out the word hello. From reading the comments it could be related to another number (mobile number format) that I blocked a few weeks ago as they were doing the same thing. Everyone loves a new number from spam callers right?
