I returned a call from (02) 9060 8403 but reached vm for Social Research Centre

Caller: He said he was Anan calling from ( (02) 9060 8403 ( Sydney)

He said " My name is Anan he said he was calling regarding important Australia wide Government Research Survey ( or words to that effect) into cancer research and then asked " may I ask which state you are in?

I declined-

My view is that when the male caller said " My Name is Anan he was seeking to relax my concerns ( lower my guard) by " revealing something about him" so I should feel relaxed about revealing something about me - ( good Psychology) - that it was Government also seeks to do that - by saying its Australia wide - makes the next question a natural
" and what State are you in ?" Rather than say I thought it a scam ( leads to debate) I said " For Religious reasons I never participate in any surveys - the male caller accepted that and we bot ended the call. I still say " WATCH OUT !" and I am not relies to the extent that I said !

Caller: Hung up when they reached the answering machine - scumbag

Apparently The Do Not Call Register is for telemarketers who are trying to sell you something or get you to donate to charity. It does not apply to people who are only collecting opinions and conducting research.
