These people work for an Australian company it does not matter if they are indian or aussie.. hate the employer.. not the employee for making people do such calls..

Here's what I just posted on facebook SCAM ALERT!!!!!!!!!!!. This is a genuine post. PLEASE pass on to anyone you think may be affected (elderly parents; friends etc). My sister received a call asking if that was Mrs Harland (her surname is Page). They went on to say that they were from the Australian Taxation Office and that they had a received a complaint. They didn’t seem fazed that she wasn’t Mrs Harland. She had to supply details to confirm that she wasn't hiding income. She was very confused but luckily they gave a phone number to call back on ( (02) 9027 3808). I called and spoke to someone with what sounded like a Filipino accent. I said that my mother had received a call and didn’t know what to do. After spelling her first name THREE times (Joan) he said that he had to pass me on to the director. This person – also with what sounded like a Filipino accent then went on to say the same thing – that they had to confirm that she wasn’t hiding or declaring income and the fines were over $4,000 and so on. I said “That’s very interesting. My mother has been dead for three years.” He said “thank you” and hung up. I didn’t get a chance to say that my mother had been a housewife and had never been in a paid job and had never filed a Tax Return. I checked the phone number on Google and there are lots of complaints about this scam. As I said, please pass this on to anyone you think may be tricked or frightened into doing something. Also let them know the phone number ( (02) 9027 3808) if they have called display on their phone. Thanks.

Same ATO scam. I couldn't understand most of what she was saying, except that there is a 'legal' lawsuit against my name and they need further information about my bad taxes!!

Yes scammers of the highest order. Once again Jennifer Smith leaves a message that you are the perpetrator of a Tax Fraud and the ATO are "coming after you" if you don't call back.

When you call back Jennifer is on the phone and you get a male (indian accent) asking you a whole series of questions including TFN. Addresses etc.

I managed to get past him after a "genuine wish to resolve the debt" and got to speak to an Officer Steve Morgan (complete with ATO Badge No 1825855) who is "in charge of the prosecution".

Was advised if I paid $4700 then matter "would be resolved". Requested Reference No from ATO which I was given - NSW8511.

After that let the guy know it was a scam to which I was quickly told to "disappear" and hung up on.

Ato scam call

Thanks everyone for posting messages about this number. I got home and found a message on my answering machine from Jeniffer Smith too advising me that a warrant would be issued against me for tax fraud. They didn't refer to my name and when I called then number it rang out. Total scam!

SCAM. When I asked them what it was about they asked me to phone back the next day 'as I called too late' (it was 4pm). I asked for a name and got a very hesitant 'Mark Robinson' (must have been watching Neighbours re-runs) from a very un-Mark Robinson sounding accent! I phone them back, got a different person, and I asked them to verify me via TFN and they had no idea what I was talking about and got abusive when I said I thought that they were fake. I also said that if I logged into my ato.gov.au account would I be able to see the detaiuls of the issue and I was told 'it's much to complicated and personal for that, you have to speak to us'.

I phoned up again (I was bored and wanted a bit if fun) and asked to speak to the person in charge. The reply I got was awesome - "I am in charge of the ATO"!!!

What a joke! Ignore them at all costs

Similar to others. Left a threatening and menacing message on Answering machine claiming to be from ATO and the dire consequences if did not immediately respond. Immediately suspect that scam but felt for those elderly or non English Speakers who would be intimidated by call and be pre-occupied by these callous IDIOTS

They called my poor grandma and threatened legal action against her name. She has no idea what was happening. I finally got through and asked what this was all about. they claim she didn't file her taxes and the ATO was after her. She was so worried.
I asked for written proof of this so call claim. they refused!!!
Waste of my time but I feel sorry for my grandma.

They said they were from the ato. When I said they were frauds they became abusive and hung up.
