Caller: Indian Scam Centre A TOTAL SCAM - It begins with a recording that your service is going to be disconnected due to NBN now being available in your area. You press 1 to speak to a tech. There is a recording with an american accent that says you will be attended to. The call then connects to an Indian who tells you that they are calling you from Telstra and your internet connection is causing problems and will be disconnected if not fixed.
(I know for a fact that Telstra will not be calling you because YOU have a problem - especially after hours at 5:30 on a Friday night)
From there, it's the classic handover to the level 2 guy who gives you the BS about windows errors and you need to purchase their software to fix this problem. DO NOT LET THEM CONNECT TO YOUR PC by any means.
I called the number back and there is a recording that states "Optus regrets that the service is disconnected" No big deal, It's a one way service. But notice that it is "Telstra" calling from an "Optus" service. (Another faux pas - these guys cant even get that right) - Dear Optus, I would like to know who is paying the bill for that service. Interpol can follow the money and get these guys shut down.
Good entertainment for me as I usually get them to hang on while I check my computer (Not really that's just what I tell them). I get them to hang on for a veeery long time. And they don't even have the decency to wait for me to come back on the phone after the veeery long time.
I surmise that the initialisation for this is due to the fact that my area is currently being prepared for NBN access and there will be a database showing numbers that will be affected by the switch over. It's very clear that these scammers have access to these records.
