These calls have been plaguing me since mid April. Some of them hang up when you answer the phone. I made an application to the "do not call register list" do you think it worked... hell no! I then called my provider "3" they advised I had given consent to be on a "marketing list" and de-activated this.
I have no idea what they were talking about as I have never responded to strange text messages etc... can't say the girl on the other end was too helpful but that would be asking too much since the "3" call centre is located in Calcutta! needless to say, I haven't beem bothered by these calls since, so I suggest you contact your provider if you want these calls to cease.

I,ve been getting calls from the following numbers (02) 8988 5338, (02) 8988 5398 & (02) 8988 7183. I went onto another forum "WhoCallsMe? and the same numbers are quoted by various people. Apparently these guys are scammers and suggest they have authority from other banks and card companies which they don't. Do not buy anything or give them any of your personal details. They have been reported to the Banking Ombudsman and Privacy Commissioner. It has been suggested you report them as nuisance calls to Telstra or your phone provider. I actually picked up the call from 8988 7183 and spoke to a young girl who advised she was calling from the Westpac customer support services team. Luckily I was too busy to talk to her as this call would have seemed legitimate considering I closed my account 4 weeks earlier!

Got this miss call twice but no messages were left. Annoying.

Well now they say they are Energy Australia.
Very Persistent, and not forthcoming with all the finer details.

Same here. Up to about 7 or 8 calls from (02) 8988 5398, (02) 8988 7183 or (02) 8198 6598. Never leave a message and I never answer. All a bit sus.
