Same as all of the above. We have a business line with caller id. They have rung multiple times only to hang up when answered stating the name of our business. The freaky part is, we also have a private silent number. After answering the business number and them hanging up, a couple of minutes later the private line rings. Upon answering the caller with an accent says his name is John and he is call from the claims department and has information that someone from this number had a car accident some time ago. Is this correct. When I asked him for the details he hung up. Just rang the number back and got the message "Optus advises that the number you have dialed has been disconnected"

They've called several times. Each time I've been asked about a car accident. Which I haven't been in.
If it was legit they would've spoken professionally with hi I'm. . . From company. I got some Asian lady insisting we had been in an accident.

I've had them call many times over the last 12 months. I've blown a whistle into the phone a couple of times when they've called recently - after telling them several times before not to call. They quickly hang up! It's an old trick for 'crank' calls I learnt years ago. I think the calls have lessened, but they still try from time to time.

Call received 25/9/15 3.54pm - went straight to voice mail. Just heard " Hello, Hello" in an Asian-style accent. They didn't leave a message/contact (as a legitimate call would if they really wanted to talk to you). Checked the number - "disconnected"! How can we find these people to stop the harassment/scams/annoyance. Can our Australian Telecommunications companies do something!!

If they call my mum again with scam offers of free phone calls I will make a formal complaint by becoming racially abusive.

Completely fake. But a good bit of sport. Keep them hanging on with hello's, tell them that their phone keeps breaking up, keep baiting them with little bits of fake information. They'll ring straight back. Just did it four times. They keep ringing back if they think they've got you. Meanwhile my workmates are laughing their heads off in the background. I think they caught on in the end.

Had this number call me today.
I did not answer my home phone as I did not recognise the number. They did not leave a message on my answering machine. I'm on the do not phone register to stop tele-marketing/prank calls.
I looked this number up via the web and found the above complaints, so I then phone the number back using my mobile on private. It comes up as a Optus "This phone is disconnected"
I contacted Optus via Facebook and notice another person a month ago had the same complaint as mine.
I'm not sure how a disconnect account can be making calls?
Lets hope Optus can resolve this issue now that they are notified.

The call listed as 'overseas' on the calling number display. Foreign accent. I just kept answering 'hello' when the lady said 'hello'. Hello? On other occasions I just put the phone on the table and walk away.

These calls come from overseas and some how they get Australian phone numbers up front which cant be blocked.
I have stopped the calls by buying a $60 phone with caller ID from d*ck Smith and paying $3 extra per month to my service provider for to enable caller ID on my phone.
When my phone rings it lights up with ID. If the ID is 'private' I simply dont answer. If it's unknown number I check on internet and only call back if its from known or trusted caller.
Works perfectly. There is no other way,

Have just had 6 calls in a row from this number and they just hang up. I called back and it says the number is disconnected. Then a call from a hidden number came through and the same again.

ha, I'm not alone. I told them two weeks ago that they have the wrong number (as I wasn't involved in a car accident). They then ring every 2nd day. Today they've three times, and hang up when I answer (except for the 3rd one, I could hear noise bedlam in the background, at their call centre). I'm tempted to divert the number to the fax line for a couple of days. 100% spam.
