Caller: Doesn't matter all the same What people need to know is that all these calls are aided and abetted by telstra ! They have an endless bank of numbers that these people are given access to, so they just have to make the call then telstra under their agreement just allocates one of this number bank to that call and another call will have another number bank number allocated to it , this is why if you do happen to call back the connection just cuts out because you are calling a non existent number and telstra should be ashamed of themselves for that " Profit Over Privacy! " shame on you Telstra! The only other hang up calls you will get "are" actual numbers their the ones that let it ring just once or twice then end the call, the idea behind this is to get you to call them wondering what they wanted and by doing so they can now overcome the " Do Not Call Register " as you have now phoned them and they are just returning your call ( perfectly legal ). SO if you don't know the numbers and they don't leave a message " BLOCK " the lot of them and tell everyone you know to do the same. Legitimate callers will generally always leave some form of message for you. And to finish my rant! Shamefully enough most of these calls come from the one company that collects for most of the well known charities and for every $1 you donate only about 3 cents to a maximum of 8 cents from that $1 goes to that actual charity the rest goes into the pockets of these annoying " Thieves "
Thanks for your time!
PS:~ TELL EVERYONE ! ABSOLUTELY EVERYONE!
Cheers.

Caller: some charity This is the THIRD number from this mob, luckily I can block individual numbers on my iPhone, but these guys use a range of numbers they cycle through. So I keep blocking, & they keep ringing. At this stage, it's like warfare!

Calls regularly and has now resorted to asking for me by name. How did they find out my name. I don't answer, ever. If it is important they would, in my opinion, leave a proper message on my machine instead of just asking for me by name.

Have had same problem, contacted Telstra to have trace to find out who it was. As soon as I did that they stopped for the length of the trace [30 days] as soon as trace time up started again, rang telstra and they wanted me to pay to put trace on again as you only get one free. I complained and they put another trace on for free and the calls stopped again. The cynic in me wonders whether it is telstra themselves and they don't care as they are all calls someone is paying for. Instead of hanging up after they do try leaving your phone off hook for a while.

They called and hung up when I said hello. They'd just want us to call them back so they don't have to pay for the phone call. I too am on the do not call register, which has made zip difference to the number of telemarketer calls I receive.

At least 5 calls in the last week, including one at 7.53 pm, always hangs up as soon as answer machine picks up the call. They're wasting their time with me, as I never pick up the landline, as since getting the NBN there never ending scam calls. The week before I got a lot of calls from this number on one day. Think they haven't anything else to do but annoy people. Wish they'd get a proper job, maybe a cleanup Aussie job.

Several calls a day which I never answer from this, and other numbers used by this lot, seeking donations. It is bordering on harassment.

Caller: SES charity collector I donated to the SES some years ago when there were major fires in NSW and there were news reports of lots of their equipment being destroyed. It was a good thing at the time but if I knew they were going to pester me for years after for money, I would have donated anonymously and not given my details to get a receipt for tax purposes.
I have answered calls from their charity collectors before and asked to be put on their, "do not call", list but my understanding is they do not need to do this under the Do NOT CALL legislation as they are a charity.
If you register with the DO NOT CALL register, at least you won't get calls from telemarketers.
See more information here about the DO NOT CALL REGISTER https://www.donotcall.gov.au/consumers/faqs-for-consumers/#registration-ineligible

Thanks Stephen. Great to know this information. I have suspected something like this was happening. Like you if they don't leave a message I don't answer the calls.

Caller: 61 288 233 052 : UNSOLICITED, NUISANCE, TELEMARKETER...whatever ! I didn't recognise the number, so didn't reply. Very annoying, especially with ill relatives. What on Earth is the use of the Don't Call Register, when organisations call for donations. The more they call... the less people will give, if anything at all. B***** useless!

Further to what Stephen and Harry said block the first 6 numbers eg 02 9094 and 02 8524 as in a lot of cases they only change the last 4 numbers it will not stop all the scammers but it helps. Let the call go to your answering machine if no message is left block them. I do this in my modem hopefully you can to. If you have family or friends with the same prefix you may be able to allow their numbers to get through in the modem phone settings.
