Another ATO scam. I had a rather poor quality recording left on my answering machine. It was a digitalized voice, with an American accent, saying "Australian Taxation Office, has lodged a law suit against you ring this number to speak to a case worker". The sound quality of the digital voice was so poor that I had to listen to the message several times to even understand they were threatening a law suit! I actually rang the number given from my work phone to see what would happen. Phone is answered by someone with an Indian accent, saying it is the office of Chris Matthews.

I got a message on our home phone from this number saying legal proceedings is underway to recover debt from ATO. And left this number to call them.I panicked and called my accountant she assured me we don't owe ATO any money and said it might be a scam. I googled this number and I discover this thread. Thank God I didn't fall in this scam. Please if you don't owe any money, ignore it.

Another caller testing my block filter and confirming that it works perfectly.
Many calls originate overseas from computers using fake numbers so complaining to Telstra will not solve the problem.
If you want to block nuisance calls like this one, you have the option of buying a phone from a Telstra Shop that can do this, it is called the Telstra Call Guardian 301. The phone is well worth the investment.
Other devices such as Fritz!Box modem router also have call blocking features.

Don't give out any details to this number. They will wipe your bank. My dad has been waiting since 9am for a 'cop' who hasn't showed up and it's now 1pm. make sure you report it to the ATO!

ATO scam. Claims a warrant will be issued for your arrest if you do not call. So evil. Says you have not complied with audit requirements or some such thing.
