A pop up appeared on my computer screen advising that I should ring this number purporting to be a Testra Support line, concerning a security problem with my data. i.e Passwords, financial info, photos etc. I immediately rang Telstra via their published phone contact number. They confirmed that the number was not theirs; not to disclose any info, and to run internet security program such as Norton immediately. AFTER doing so I rang the suspect number, spoke to an Indian accent man who asked to take control of my computer to fix it! On asking, he gave his "Telstra" office address as 218 Tokyo Tower, but did not know if this was in Sydney, or Queensland? SCAM!

They will try to get you to install some sort of software on your computer and gain control of it. You don't have a virus, it's all completely fake - it's just a webpage telling you that you've got a problem. Just trust your own antivirus software, that's why you installed it!

Yep, I've had this one twice now, but this time I rang the number and acting really dumb (came naturally..) and computer illiterate, so was able to tie the guy down for about 10 minutes before he exploded with a few choice words before hanging up. I don't think he was a Harvard man..

Got the same message as others, except it said it was from La Trobe University (whose internet I was using). I've had warnings from La Trobe's IT department and they're always appropriately branded, not this blue screen of death nonsense, so I didn't bother calling.

I opened my browser and almost had a heart-attack when I thought the blue screen of death had reared its ugly head, and then the pop-up message itself kept popping up and wouldn't let me exit. Very frustrating.

Yes, the 'telstra' security warning came up when I was in Apprenticeship Melbourne / Matters website using Google. Bit of a worry that they've identified our IP address.
