I too, have had the same call, left as a message on the answering machine. Quite brazen...in a voice with a slight accent.

My husband first had a call from a Mobile and he asked them to call me! They did from this number. They told me we hadn't put in a personal injury claim from a recent car accident. Watch out for this !

We're received multiple calls from this number, all saying the exact same thing. These phone calls are a scam, please do not give them any contact details or your tax file number etc. The Australian Tax Office does not make phone calls and threaten people. https://www.ato.gov.au/General/Online-services/In-detail/Online-security/How-to-verify-or-report-a-scam/ Example two under phone call scams is exactly what these people are trying to do.

Caller: Smoke direct club I didn’t answer but they left me a voice message saying it was smoke direct club and to ring them back. It was an automatic message and I have only enquired about smile direct club well over 6 months ago, not sure why they are calling me for now

They have called my phone 3 times in a row. I'm at work so not picking up. Eventually one went to message bank but no message left. Could hear a call center environment in the background,

Caller: (02) 8416 8014 This is a criminal Network using wholesale voip provider via Symbio Networks to target Australians. The process is to report to your carrier and get them to raise a incident with police in your state. The Police will then get Symbio to provide details of the provider and then they will investigate. I urge everyone to take the time to do this, it's the only way to stop these scammers.

I was recently called with this number. It wasnt about any accidents like everyone os talking about. This call has been harrasing me for months and when i say harrasing i mean they have been non stop calling me twice a day three times a day! They all are asking for some guy named archy and they wont stop calling for him my number has been given out to some company and they wont take me off the call register i have blocked countless numbers 17 to be exact all wanting the same thing. I block them sure enough another number is calling me. I am powerless i dont want to change my number but it looks like i will have to. I have even put my number under the do not call regiseter and they still get through. I have documents each call they have made to me. This has got to stop....

Caller: Male caller with sub continental accent received the first call from a mobile 0487 997 865. I was happy to receive a call as I used it as an excuse to leave a meeting. The guy said he would ring back in half an hour to discuss the accident I had! After 4 missed calls from (02) 8416 8014m I answered the next call made whilst driving (hands free). Same guy and was keen to get details of my 'accident'. After providing him with the 'general' info that he wanted to hear, he was digging deeper and asked for my rego number & vehicle description. I gave him the rego of the car in front of me and make & model. He was able to confirm the colour. When he asked for the rego of the other car involved in said accident, I told him that I did not have this info & to call back tomorrow. Which he agreed to do. Even gave me a time of 10:30 am. He obviously had access to a vehicle data base which is scary. I have since blocked both numbers. This is one dodgy scam and the authorities need to track them down,

Threatened all sorts of legal action. Total scam. Don't call back. Block the number and all similar numbers you get afterwards. I'm on the do not call list. Have no idea how they got my number!

I just got one of these calls. This was first reported in 20 months ago.
These people are openly and brazenly attempting to steal people's money. Clearly they're succeeding or they wouldn't keep paying for these calls. I don't even really blame them. They're criminals. There's always been and will always be criminals. That's why we have police. But where's the police when it comes to phone-scammers?
It's like allowing a pickpocket with a t-shirt labelled "I am a pickpocket" walk undisturbed around the streets stealing from (mostly) elderly people. Except that the amounts involved here are probably a lot more than most people carry in their wallets.

Absolute joke - daft accent - they are going to arrest me unless I gave them my bank & tax details. Ends with "Have a pleasant day" - straight from a Monty Python sketch.

I had several calls from this number. How to prevent calls? Why ATO is not doing anything?

To avoid a police officer at my home or place of employment I must call them, said they were from the Commonwealth Bank and it was related to my tax. Waste of time.
