(02) 8373 6811 is one of a few numbers to call my mobile. There is no "connecting" tone when I answer - just dead. I won't answer in future. What do scammers gain by calling like this?

Global Direct - I called their 1300 number and lodged a complaint. They have put me on the "do not phone" list but obviously the message didn't get across as I have received two subsequent calls this morning from the number since complaining.

2 Thursday's in a row. 4:30pm today & 5:12pm last Thursday.
Last time it hung up as soon as I answered; this time it was silent for about 10 secs & said "Goodbye".
I bought something from Global Direct a few months ago; The item was fully paid off on time, so I believe this is a telemarketing call, to offer more products.

Just received a call from this number, only it showed up on caller ID like this: +1 0283736811.
The +1 makes me think it's an international number calling me, masked by a NSW (02) phone number - which a lot of international call centres do.
My phone rang, I said "hello" & then the call ended. No voice or tone on the other line.
In reply to some of the comments listed here...
Telco's can't block numbers from calling you, nor can they "shut down" a phone number, simply because it's calling people without a request or purpose.
If you're being harassed by this, or any other number, you can...
1. Add your number to the Do Not Call Register (DNCR), for free. https://www.donotcall.gov.au/
2. Once you're on the DNCR for 30+ days, if you receive any more unwanted calls you can file a complaint with DNCR.
3. Call your Telco & ask to speak to their "Unwelcome Call Centre", where in some cases they can track these phone calls. This applies to any unwanted calls, not just telemarketers etc.

We get calls every day from this number but no one answers..we have called back but just get a noise like when you call a fax number. Where are these calls coming from???

Argh! These calls are so annoying! I got called 3 times today - tried complaining but they just called right back!

Hi: I now put my phone on "Do Not Disturb" when I'm sleeping - because of this caller. You still get sms's and can also see who has called but you don't get disturbed. Thought it may help you.

+161283736811:this number has been calling my mobile constantly over the last few days, when i answer the call it is dead, co connecting tone nothing, then an automated female voice says 'goodbye' and the call disconnects.
this is getting very annoying especially as it happens at all hours.

I'm getting 3-5 calls a day from this number too and it just says "goodbye". Surely Telstra or Optus can disconnect this number from whoever owns it until they sort out their crap!!!

I have had 2 calls within an hour today, where both calls where disconnected after 10 seconds or so. I had a number of calls from the same number about a month ago

just got one of the calls to my mobile you've all been receiving cept that it was a woman who wanted to sell me something saying that I was on their database - which I'm not.
I'm on the "do not call register" but unfortunately these overseas sales calls aren't stopped by the register! So I'm royally peeved. I'm now also receiving Indian scammer calls too (cept that's to my home phone).
Really really fricken annoyed because I make sure that I don't give my mobile number out to all and sundry.

Same as above and since I work night shift it is keeping me awake!! They should be stopped!
