this was organised by my real estate agent - I also first thought it was a scam and they are quite pushy with arranging a date/time but I contacted my real estate agent and they confirmed that it is all correct. No scam, no bogus - real company. If you're no longer living in the property the real estate agent hasn't update the contact details - hardly their fault, just tell them you no longer live there.

They are a real business. For those receiving calls from them regarding an old property you were living in, your property manager has not updated the tenant contact details with them yet. If the know your name and address, they got your details from your landlord or property manager. We have used them for years. Reliable company. Their inbound number on their website is a 1300 number and they call you on an 02 number? Shock. Horror. How dare a nationwide company call you from a state based prefix phone number relevant to you *eyeroll!*

When I started talking to these freaks sounded like a marketing call. But they knew my name and address and real estate name, so I accepted booking, then called up real estate and they confirmed this is correct. But after reading some of the comments I am surprised

These people say they are from Smoke Alarms Australia and have been asked by the landlord or agent to do a smoke alarm test inspection. They are scammers and have NOT been requested to do any inspections. Do NOT return the calls from these people.

Smoke Alarms Australia is a service employed by real estate agents to check and replace smoke alarms in rented properties. They will call to set up a time to visit the property. They can be pushy about setting up a time but they are a legitimate business.

Smoke Alarms Australia. I called and clarified with my real estate agent. She said yep it's legitimate but they do often employ people with exceptionally poor communication skills. The real estate agent also said they'll be pushy to use specific times but you're 100% entitled to refuse access and arrange a time that better suits you.

They are calling for a property I have not lived in for over a year. If my old landlord had requested an inspection, they would be calling the current tennants, not someone living back with their family...

Call about 15 times a da, all from different numbers. Hyper aggressive in trying to get you to book in a smoke alarm test.

Telemarketing/scam I think. I get these calls a couple of times a month stating they are requested by the landlord to check my smoke alarms. I have told them I do not rent then they hang up.

BEWARE THIS IS A SCAM!!!
The number claims to be from Smoke Alarms Australia and says that the real estate agent has asked them to set up a time for a fire inspection.

I stated that the strata for my building has engaged a different provider to conduct fire inspections and refused to provide access. The person started arguing with me stating the landlord had already paid. I said that they could take it up with the real estate agent and hung up.

They called again two days later attempting the same thing. This time I called the real estate agent to confirm and they said that they had already received an invoice for service from them despite the fact no such service has been provided because I refused to provide access.

I have now been receiving non-stop texts from different mobile numbers from people claiming to be from SAA. I have made a formal complaint to SAA, which has a different contact number on its website, waiting to hear back.

They called 16 times in a day for alarm check on behalf of a real estate agent but real estate did not request it.

After a wee, I started getting call from a Melbourne number which is also smoke alarms Australia

I called back number (02) 8355 3747 spoke to a woman who said company name is Smoke Alarms Australia.

Smoke Alarms Australia. They've been requested by landlords or estate agents to conduct routine checks. Be careful, though - they just called me and said they'll be at my place at 6am on Thursday and then tried moving on to another point, like it wasn't negotiable. She was quite flexible when I said No, but it was presumptive in the first place.
Anyway, not telemarketing, not a spam call.
