Hi - phone call claiming to be from the ATO. Just want to find out if it's a scam or not. Apparently a warrant is about to be issued for my arrest (!!)
I am in South Australia.

Used by scammers as a call back number. Have nothing to do with it,

Scammers. Utter scum. Probably based in India. I am speculating that they have worked or are working in a call centre operated on behalf of an Australian business that has sent jobs overseas to cut costs, and have obtained phone number lists from their former or current employer. So much for strict privacy laws. The ATO and the authorities are aware of these scams, but don't bother to do anything about it. Why doesn't the foreign ministry raise this with their overseas counterparts if these people are based offshore? Does our government do anything for the average Joe/Jill??

Have had 4 messages on my answering machine over 2 week period 24/11 - 8/12. From the 4 messages there were 3 different numbers given (03) 6107 9624, (03) 5234 5035 and (02) 8317 3527. Low life Scumbags!

A person has left us a message on our phone from this number stating that we are to expect a law suit for tax evasion. They are claiming to be the ATO.

Just had a call from the "ATO" saying that I was going to court for Tax Fraud. Hello, I pay my taxes!! Typed in this number to the net and started reading out all your comments to him and he hung up on me. My guy was Mr Michael Anderson yet he sounded Philipino.

My goal is to make scammers hang up on me now - it at least makes these calls fun and gets you wiped off their list I find. Try it...

Have had this call a number of times over the last year, just tell them to hold on and let them sit there and wait.

Just got a call from private number (my phone tells me and I never answer them) but this dude left a message. Indian accent but claimed to be James Appleton from the ATO and that he had received a legal complaint against "your name" for Tax evasion and he was going to issue an arrest warrent if I didn't call him back on (02) 8317 3527. SCAMMER!!! I mean honestly, does he think I came down in the last shower of rain??

Have received 2 calls in the last 3 days. Recorded phone messages advising of legal proceedings to be instigated by the ATO and the need to call back. Absolute scammers who will no doubt find some vulnerable people to defraud.

As above - claimed to be ATO, without even asking who he was talking to started a spiel about warrant for arrest et cetera. Have had two similar calls over the last couple months, have just hung up each time. Scam scum indeed!

The ATO does not conduct itself in this manner, never has and never will. Report it and forget it.

They left two messages on our answerphone, telling us the same thing. We didn't call them back

Left a message saying we were about to be arrested. Ato scam. Hell of a lot more steps before it gets to arrest stage.

This "person" calls themselves Jason O'Connor from ATO saying we are being sued for tax evasion. An obvious scam!

had a message from Jason O'Connor from the tax office with a very heavy accent .... also claimed law suit pending and warrant issued for arrest re tax. I have ignored the message as no way tax office would operate in this way.

Left message claiming to be from Australian Tax Office. Obvious scam.

We've also had the same call. Have nothing to do with the scum.

We have had two messages left from this number - exactly the same message saying there has been a law suit filed against our name and that there will be a local police officer coming to arrest us. Can't quite pick up the guys name who makes the call.
