Received message on home phone from a Kevin Matthews from the CDPP, Criminal Department of Public Prosecutions on behalf of the ATO saying a case has been lodged in the courts for tax evasion or tax avoidance. Said for a lawyer or ourselves to call back immediately as the matter was time sensitive. Do not ignore this message were his parting words. Rang ATO scam section and gave a report. Did not ring this number back the ATO guy said they will ask for all your private details.

I have received this call numerous times which is automated and is a scam. Is very annoying that these scammers haven't been shut down - has been going on for far too long - surely in todays age and technology our Telcos can stop them. Ps am on the do not call register and these calls are flooding in at present. I also have caller display and don't answer any calls anymore that I don't recognise.

Automated message requiring me to call back the number to prevent lawyers coming to my door due to tax evasion, which is not correct! Apparently my number is also under surveillance too ;). Sounds almost like one of those disguised voices you see on a ransom call in the movies.

Apparently I could join a live online conference with the Australian Prime Minister if I stayed on the line and I could register to ask a question. Recording is an Australian female voice. What nonsense. As per above … fraud attempt.

I had exact same message today. I've had a similar message before (with a few details different). This number may also be in a bank of numbers that for Skype endpoints -- so the "caller" could be anywhere in the world but using Skype to call out. Unfortunately it's very hard to stop this sort of thing.

TAX scam. I have a file against me for Tax Avoidance and Tax Evasion. Please get my Lawyer or myself to call him back ASAP on (02) 8317 3378. I have not had to lodge a Tax return since 2003.

They use an auto dialer. It dials number after number. It doesn't matter if your on the DNC list. It's only proper companies that "wash" their number list with DNC, that picks up your number and deletes it. ( Or on sells it)
So, if your on the DNC list and you get a call, this company is not following guidelines and hence, you already know you can trust.
Some places just open the yellow pages at A..... and just go to Z.

Likewise with the CND & the do not call register. We do miss some calls if people do not leave a message but we educate friends & contacts to leave a message so we avoid unwanted calls.

Same message stating the ATO was after me but so unprofessional and one of the most ridiculous scam calls ever. Twice today.
