I was starting to get these calls, so I took the time to call NIB on the (02) 8315 3080 number they called me from. After getting through the digital switchboard, I got onto a lovely young lady named Emily .. Emily is from Newcastle. We had a nice LONG chat about the impropriety of call centre staff phoning people and leaving the line dead. It was really quite amazing, she agreed with me on all counts and took note of the number that the call was coming from. Emily was exceedingly polite and trying to be as helpful as possible. I must admit I rambled for a long time and probably ran over the same data points more than once, but given that the call was being recorded, I'm certain that if NIB are interested in identifying and fixing the problem that they have more than enough information to run with.
But just in case .. I would encourage everyone receiving these calls to take the time to call Emily and inform her of the problem with the empty phone calls coming in. She seemed a real darling, very sincere, polite and kind .. you will no doubt enjoy chatting with her.
As people dutifully concerned with the failures in the NIB call centre, it would seem the least we could do for them.

Not sure why I keep getting calls (at work oddly enough). When I answer, they hang up. When I don't, they don't leave a message either. It's a mystery.

Interesting. We've just left NIB for another health fund. I wonder if it's them wanting to know why we left?

Private health cover sales call. NIB is the insurance underwriter, Quantas Assure is the name of the product. Possibly Quantas has sold a customer database, and "notified" us of this by burying a disclaimer in the terms of service when boarding.

Left a voicemail that said it was NIB and that I need to call them back. I’m already with Nib and know that they are Newcastle based and when they have called legitimately before it’s been a 49 number whereas this is obviously a call centre in Sydney. So I’m not calling back. I have had lots of missed calls and stacks of spam calls so I’m assuming this is another one and won’t be answering.

This is obviously what's referred to as a predictive dialler, and is set up incorrectly. These numbers are shared across the companies that use the software. it calls x number of people assuming only y will pick up then connects them to a call centre agent. If too many people pick up and not enough agents can take the calls, it hangs up on you (abandons the call). many industries have targets for how many abandons are acceptable.
this is thoroughly annoying when it happens, and as someone that works in a call centre it's bad practice that can be easily managed by changing a few settings. also I'm already with NIB stop calling me!
