Got a call yesterday about getting an accidental claim compensation. I knew it was a scam, so i started pushing back cause the call should be from my insurance company, no one can call me up randomly and say those things.
But surprising they have my name, my number, my email address and my old home (rental address) which they were claiming to acquire from RTA. Which really ticked me off, and I told the guy, if you really get this from RTA's database then we have a very serious problem 1. If my information is getting out to you from RTA, we have a privacy breach. 2. Giving my information to a 3rd party without my consent is illegal in Australia
in both cases what you are doing have serious consequences. then I started asking where are you calling from and the other end went silence, then dropped the line.
I have reported this to RTA QLD since my I am from QLD and my address that lives in RTA is of QLD.
Given this opportunity, if anyone gets this kind of call, please try to get the guys name and location, I had a funny feeling its from India, as the guy's accent was Indian. (Don't get me wrong, it's the accent - I am not racist :) )
I think the only police can trace these people out or have the authority/capability.
Regards Towhid

Had 3 calls in 2 days from this number. First time was around 7pm so I didnt answer as I dont know anyone in Sydney. Second and third were both females who said my name and if I was in an accident in the past 3 yrs. I said 'nope' then they asked if someone in my household was in an accident I said 'nope'. She said that they have my address (rental) as someone who has been in an accident and the other person is seeking compensation. Told both that it wasnt me and they hung up.

Had the same call from (02) 8311 0244. Female had a strong Indian accent. Claimed I had been in an accident in the last 2 years then asked if my family was. Funny thing I wasn't living in the country 2 years ago. Have since blocked the number.

Yes I have had 2 phone calls saying I was in an accident last year. Big bloody scam artists I would really like to know how they get your details. But obviously if your a computer hacker you get anything which is very disturbing they are nothing but low life scum.

I had a missed call from 256205463363 this number just now. As I don't know anyone in Uganda I didn't call back but googled the number and found this site. An insurance scam as reported below seems plausible - I've just had a no-fault repair done to my vehicle through NRMA (insurer of both parties) at a repairers in Thornleigh. So it's likely my mobile number was obtained through one of those parties (or the offending driver I suppose).

Yes a definite scam. Indian accent telling me they're from road traffic authority, regarding my accident. I just said bullsh*t and hung up! Very annoying, needs to be stopped.

The caller a tated they were from RTA, Road 'something' Australia when I asked. The caller then asked if I had been in a car accident recently as my insurance flagged a claim, I said no, then asked if any of my family members had me, I repeated no 3 times when I realised the nature of the call before hanging up. When I tried to call back it just hangs up.
