Scam ATO criminal proceeding phone call

Messages left on my phone threatening. ATO aren't my friends but wouldn't do this. DONT call them

This is a threatening scam call from ATO saying that you (no names mentioned) are going to be prosecuted for tax fraud and that it is time sensitive. They leave this number to call back which I haven't done as it is obviously a scam to me anyway as the ATO would request a specific person, and name them, to call them back and certainly would NOT threaten court action over the phone.

Looks like same information happened to me. There was a phone message on my landline ..my name wasn't quoted. Said "criminal case for tax evasion, time critical, must call back within the hour ". A bit disturbing!

Please report any information you have about the scam call to the Australian Taxation Office. Any contact numbers, noted accents, behaviors of the scammer would greatly help the ATO investigate these scams

2 phone calls from this number today, (plus 1 yesterday) 2 threatening messages left, enough to scare my kids. Im disgusted. These arseholes need to be stopped.

ATO Scam

Same as other posters here. Phone call is threatening and demanding money with menaces. Obvious fraud and still going on so no action taken by Police too busy eating donuts and pointing radar guns at people.

Poorly worded message threatening legal action.
Any Australian company would have a 1800 number to call them back on.

Bastards called and left message on my answering machine also. They need to be stopped

received 4 msgs on my voicemail telling me to call this number as i was being charged for tax evasion.
I called the number back and they simply answered with "hello". when i told them i received several messages from them they transferred me... the guy got on the phone saying "ato"... i said this is not the ATO and what is it they want.. .he asked for my name which I refused and he started getting angry.. he said if I dont tell him my name then he would hang up... i gave him my name and he said this number was registered to a Mrs Wood.... and just hung up.
BE CAREFUL.. THIS IS NOT THE ATO!

Picked it as a scam straight away. Did not specifiy person to call back. Did not state which Department we had a problem with. Did not say what the court action was about. Urged us to call back immediately or we would be prosecuted. Three weeks prior to this Taxation Dept. completed an audit and were satisfied with our tax lodgings..

Same threat of impending court proceedings. Obvious scam but could be very distressing for some people
