Caller: "Nancy" from "The Government Solar rebate scheme" Rang after 7:30pm. Heavy indian accent. We are on the do not call register. Waste of time. That the caller had an australian phone number indicates to me that there is also a fault with the australian telecommunications - and they need to stop this illegal operation

We are also on the 'do not call register' and don't answer the calls but always check the number on this site There must be a way to block these calls coming into the country I would expect our 'experts' to be capable of at least taking care of those of us who are on the DNC register..I am fed up with this rubbish being allowed to continue Am way beyond annoyed

Caller: Scammers from overseas The Do Not Call Register is useless. Telstra is useless.
Constant calls from these people daily and Telstra says there is nothing they can do. Really? The only calls I get these days on my landline is from scammers using local numbers but calling wither from India or the Philippines. I need the landline because of my business otherwise I would get rid of it.
Telstra talk a big talk, but don't care enough about their Australian customers to protect them from overseas thieving scammers.

Caller: Indian female asking do I have solar panels on roof They've rung dozens of times on different mobiles, I've strung them along a few times but finally just told them to F off and they went even harder, calling more times than I could count, I just keep blocking all the numbers, sooner or later they will run out of numbers to spoof?

Constant calls from local NSW phone number on my landline - no message ever left. I ignore then, never ring back, calls still come. DNC register is a joke.

Another Indian pest re solar scheme. Told them I'm totally fed up with these monotonous calls. Asked them how many call centres they had and why they persist in annoying the c##p out of everyone. Eventually after trying to justify his call he finally got the message and hung up. Think we should put the phone on diversion to the Indian High Commission for a while and see how long before they get fed up with their citizens making a nuisance of themselves.

Caller: (02) 8264 7916 A silent number only means the number is not shown in the phone book and cannot be given out by the directory service.. These numbers still exist in the number range. These foreign callers use an automatic calling device that steps through the number range, incrementing the number by one each time hoping that some-one will answer. When the call is answered it is switched to one person in a panel of many people just waiting to flog stuff to you or to scam you. Google 'call operators in India' and you'll see the set up. Many images available. The Australian rules governing Do Not Call can only apply to Australian companies and scammers where fines can be imposed on scam callers. It is an Australian law only, which is a bit of a nuisance. My answer to that is not to answer any calls where I don't recognise the phone number, my phone displays the calling number (CLI). Of course, I have friends who have private numbers too, but they all leave messages, it is just these overseas people who don't! Tom P

Get a Telstra Guardian phone. After you set it up, you can forget the scammers.

Caller: NBN Being on the DNC will not stoop these scammers as they use dormant Telstra Optus numbers and fake numbers through VOIP which are un-blockable. The telcos could do more but they do not care.
