have received numerous calls about an Amex account from someone else who must've put my mobile number down on their application. Thing is, i've had this number for mroe than 10 years. The debt gets passed from one collection agency to another and all of them call my mobile trying to track down this person. I've asked them to delete my number but it hasn't happened yet.

This number is associated with Collections House a debt collection agency used by American Express.

someone called Laura sms and left a reference number..called back and its got an answer machine to leave my name and number...sounds like a collection agency for credit cards

Why do these people ring us with a "Private Number" listed on their calls?
Why are they hesitant to declare who they are?
Why can they get away with this under the "Privacy" act?
Why can they ask for private information without declaring who they are?
What is consumer protection and the law doing about this?
