Beware this is a scammer, they are making calls through a legitimate Citibank number. Hang Up and do not give them any information, call Citibank directly to be safe.

Caller: Scammer Claimed to be from a financial instition's fraud department investigating a Google Wallet that was suspiciously set up on my account. They have access to some of your legitimate details to make them seem legitimate. They are looking to get more info to complete the scam. Caller hangs up when you ask them for a number to call them back on. Do not give them any info. Do not call them back.

Scammer pretending to be Citibank. They may already have your Citi credit card number through other means (hacked emails etc) and may ask you to provide the one-time PIN numbers from the real Citibank to take over your account and authorise fraudulent transactions. DO NOT EVER GIVE read out your one-time PIN number over the phone. The real Citibank will ask you to type in the one-time PIN on your phone number pad, not read it out.

Caller: Scammer pretending to be Citibank Securities team HANG UP and do not give any info. This is a legitimate Citibank phone number but somehow a scam has been able to mask their number and this is the number that comes up on your phone screen. It’s not Citibank calling though. If in doubt, hang up and call Citibank back directly. Do not confirm your identity directly to a human. Citibank will get you to do it through an automated service. I personally got caught by this last week and they managed to transfer $13500 from my credit card and Citi were unable to stop it despite me hanging up when I got suspicious and calling Citi immediately.

Caller: 61 2 82250615 Scammer. Comes up as a Citibank number but it isn’t. The scammer says he is from Citi card fraud department and asked did you make an accommodation booking with booking.com for $1754.00 as your card has been used in NZ booking this. All sounded legit as he’s using the same Citi script that fraud do use until I noticed text messages coming to my phone. Then I hung up and called Citibank and had the card cancelled as well as my online account. Truly upsetting they knew my address etc and wanted me to verify which I didn’t. Luckily Citibank responded quickly you can see how scammers are getting more sophisticated and how people quickly become victims.
