Don't be too hard on them, they're a community minded group who for the most part do good work. Just block the number if you don't want to speak to them. I continue to support their causes and sign petitions but don't want to be getting calls about other things so I just ignore. For those saying they're wasting donation money, most of their people are volunteers so don't get too persnickety

Hi James,
Just received another call from them and it is the Climate Council. You have probably contributed to them in the past. Hope that helps.

Keep in mind Rob that they need to get their money from somwhere. I civilised countries, community organizations like Get up! get government subsidy. It's not the case in Australian "democracy" where the government provides roadblocks instead, because they are inconvenient. Get up! makes calls to raise funds. They don't leave messages - the numbers are dialled robotically, so when a voicemail or answering machine comes on, the call is automatically disconnected. Simply because leaving a message doesn't achieve anything and costs more in call charges. Behind every robotic call there is a volunteer who DONATES their time. I do both: donate money and, every now and again, time. The phone numbers used are those provided by people who expressed interest in particular causes. We need Get up!. They are actually very constructive and productive. Without organizations like them we'd be totally run by corporations with Australian goverment putting their interest before the taxpayer and the country's interest. It's already quite bad - pillage and plunder continues to be the order of the day.

It's Get Up Australia. If you sign a petition and give your number, they call periodically to promote other causes.

It's GetUp! Australia either survey or fundraising cal, or just nudging you to "get up" l. It's "robo" call. When amswering service is detected, the call is automatically cut off. For obvious reasons.

Yes, Anon, I'm a huge fan of their work and donate financially. But that doesn't mean I have invited them into my personal life, so having them ring me on my mobile is a bridge too far. It is intrusive. These are marketing tactics and I hate that they squander people's goodwill in this way. Its also incredibly lazy marketing, quite frankly, given how it pisses people off so much. Its not like it has ever worked for any government. What marketing expert convinced them robocalls were the way to go? I'm with Rob. This just stops me donating because it looks like they misuse my information and waste my donation.

Received mine at about 4.15 pm today, didn't answer as thanks to everybody's helpful warnings and comments on this site, was pretty sure it would be Get Up. Using my donated money for environmental causes to promote the SSM? Not appropriate, just another cause for a select group of homo sapiens, the dominant species on earth. (Nothing wrong with the cause per se ), but stick to the separate reasons why people donated in the first place, i.e....... Don't they realise this will diminish their support base, not increase it-- if donors are pestered for each and everything????
