This number called many times (12-15). They pretended to be OPTUS and asked for personal information. They are probably part of an identity theft ring.

Not so much a comment about this number, but telemarketers in general. If they are not from this country and you don't want them to call back, don't simply hang up or put your number on the do not call register, be EXTREMELY racist. It works for me. Personally, I don't care where someone is from or what they believe, but I use racism ALL THE TIME to upset these mongrels. Only problem is, I enjoy doing it, but they don't call back, so I gotta wait for a new call centre to open up to do a new round.

Oh I just found out "2Evolve" is a company which works on behalf of charities trying to do fundraising. They were also coming from 028etc... numbers. I found an email, and just emailed them then to stop calling me. If you would like to do the same, their email is : contact @ 2evolve.com.au.Hopefully these emails work!

It's me again, just to mention that in france it is legal to to that, as long as you dial the numbers manually ( = very low profit!!). If they generates a large amount of numbers with computers it is illegal and equals jail straight away.Bob

Yep, Same number as everyone of you guys! (02) 8198 3820. Some American lady keeps saying hello (I don't talk seeing as I don't recognize the number) She's rung about 4 times in the last 3 days. All the same lady. Once at 2 in the morning. Absolutely sick of it!

Hey guys,
Just thought I'd pass on my experiences this evening with this phone number and it's Filipino call centre. Misinformation leading to the fear of misinformation from their employer. Always be polite to the call centre goons, they are just the foot soldiers, that's step 1. Never acknowledge that you are the person they are calling for, and instead counter with a "sorry, can you tell me what the call is regarding?"...
I felt quite satisfied with my efforts in dealing with them tonight...
1. Ask for the ABN of the company. Confused response spells foreign entity. Proceed with misinformation. 2. Asked them to spell the name of the business for me. Was provided with "Sykes". Immediately ask to speak to a supervisor straight away after denying that they were speaking to the person who's name was registered against the phone 3. Ask the supervisor for his full name. Get him to spell it. Spell it back to him, so he knows that he's had it written down. 4. Tell the supervisor I'm actually an Australian business lawyer who works for the person they assumed they were calling, and that it was a business phone. 5. Politely inform him about the personal liability he could incur on himself, or any one of his staff members could be incurring on themselves by giving their full name and then proceeding to sell goods or services to someone in Australia without having the proper course of business tax paid (yes, it's bu***hit, but how many callcentre goons in the Philippines know Australian tax law?). I told him that he could be detained for tax evasion if he were to ever visit Australia, if any one of his customers were to get his name and report the business practices to the tax office. 6. At this point, "J.R. Sto. Domingo" got noticeably panicky and asked if I wanted to be put on the "Do Not Call" register. I attempt to calm him by saying that firstly I haven't bought anything from him, and secondly I am actually concerned that his employer has not informed him of the liability he may be incurring upon himself, and that - rather than report him - I just want to let him know about the Australian tax laws and how they could affect him if he were to ever visit. 7. Ask if there is anyone higher up in his organisation I could speak to regarding this matter
**15 minute interlude on hold/speaker phone while I'm watching TV**
8. "Christine Del Rosario-Dorado" picks up the phone and informs me that she is the business unit manager. I give her the same spiel as "J.R. Sto. Domingo" and ask if she was aware of the Australian tax law implications of the way they were doing business, and if there were any Australian contacts for their business. She sounds as panicky as the team leader, and informs me that she was not aware of this. I tell her that I am just trying to help her as I believe they are being taken advantage of by their employer, and that they should be asking serious questions of them.
I was provided with what appears to be a solid lead: Carynne Atkins (and a 1300 number I haven't tried yet)
An initial google search of the name leads me to the ICT people that are mentioned, and that she is the complaints officer. This goes to prove that I scared them. Am I evil or is this a good way to turn the tables? Opinions?

I have called and reported this to Optus on three occasions now, after each time I have received a call. Each time they have assured me that they would never on-sell my information to a third party, however when I have told them the ICT telecommunications message (when you call back the number it states that Optus have contracted ICT Australia and have given ICT the information) they have been quite taken aback and claim to know nothing about it. I have contacted the telecommunications ombudsman (http://www.tio.com.au/) as well. I wouldn't care so much, but this company are so incessant, unprofessional and ask highly personal information without openly explaining why they want it. Their lines are crackly and noisy. They tell you they are from Optus, rather than, ICT telemarketing calling on *behalf* of Optus (dodgy!). They also claim they are doing a "lifestyle" survey to enhance my quality of mobile service which involves questions like "Do you like going to the movies" followed quickly by "What is your address and DOB". I refused to answer both, and they refused to answer when I asked them how going to the movies relates to the quality of my mobile service. They had no answers when I asked them why they needed my address, because Optus obviously already have a copy of my address and DOB which they could use already for "lifestyle" questions, so why do they need it again? They hung up instead. Urgh, I'm sick of it. Apparently Optus has taken me off their promotional call list, but I still keep getting these calls!
