I've had calls from this number as well but never answered. If you guys are saying it's sportsbet, there's a good chance if you're a member of a footy team they would have sold your details to them.

I keep getting calls from (02) 8198 1100 as well and its really starting to piss me off I want to know who the hell it is. I get the same response as Matt Luff when i call the number (this number is diconnected)

I've been getting calls from this number for a while too.  Usually it shows up as a missed call because it's during the day but being home today I answered.  No response and when I rang from my mobile and landline I got the 'Optus regrets' blah blah blah.  Is there any way of blocking this number from calling?

I have received this call for the last 2 days, first time my partner answered and they asked for me, i wasnt there so they hung straight up, last night i answered and they hung straight up, when calling it back says is disconnected, have lodged a trace on my line with telstra.

I also get called from this number everyday if I answer it disconnects & if I call it says the number is disconnected. Someone told me it could be a scam so keep an eye on your phone bill. I hope it's not the case.

Further to my last post I found the following link, I think all this is saying though is it sounds link a generic number maybe that VOIP providers use for outgoing calls, so really it could be multiple customers using the same company for VOIP, even if this is a system outage fault notice.

Impact Ceased- Ongoing
Adam Internet technicians are currently investigating an issue effecting customers with caller disabled, or have requested a private number. Customers may experience incorrect caller id when making a call. Instead of a Private Number, the number '(02) 8198 1100' maybe shown.

Calls will still route correctly, and audio is still correct, however, an incorrect caller id is shown.

UPDATE 2009-05-11 11:00: We are continuing to investigate this issue, and have escalated the case through our upstream provider.
