Rang everyday for the past 4 days. Left silent voice message. Must be another annoying call centre. One more for my phone's blacklist.

Called twice in 2 days. no message. I think they rang recently about a so called elecricity bill. My experience has been the same as others. I simply say if I ever do answer that it is my family policy not to give out 'personal information' over the phone so unfortanately I won't be able to help you today...

Called me and hung up when I answered. After seeing over a hundred complaints here, I decided to block the number straight away. Don't want any time wasted on these useless people.

"It is a number without an owner. How do you get a phone number without having to register your name/company?"
You can't, even if that registration is through an Aussie VoIP provider or Skype - there's a record of it somewhere. Aussie numbers are being faked / spoofed and, unfortunately, some of those faked numbers belong to real Aussies who are finding themselves at the end of some pointed abuse from people who have received scam calls. Use your head people. If you were an international scammer, would YOU use a real traceable number?
"Telstra has a lot to answer for allowing these scammers into the phone network."
Not at all. There is little either Telstra or the other TelCos can do to prevent legitimate Aussie numbers being faked through overseas third party clients on the Australia's public telephone network.
"I find that asking intimate questions about their body gets them to hang up instantly!"
I'll give you that one. Even better, if you have time, play along and drag it out.
Here's an example from an American scam-baiter - https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Y_ll_qnBNTY. Just be aware of the varied nature and intricacy of scams, and the skill of the scammers.
Have some fun with these b/tards, but DON'T EVER allow people access to your real computer (use a Virtul Machine) or real personal information, name, locality, job, whatever Every second you spend with them is one less that they have to rip off or gather real info on vulnerable fellow Aussies.
Just remember that these scammers have a pay-day and their 'companies' aren't just there to be a nuisance. They can be VERY convincing in faking legitimacy (hence the faked numbers) and getting more out of you than they're entitled, worst of all your money. Organised call centre scamming is a HUGE (and successful) business in some countries.
Stay safe.

If he was Indian, then India is probably where he was. Aussie prefixes don't automatically mean Aussie locality, and organised call centre scamming using spoofed (faked) locality is big business in India.
