This number is being used to scam people into paying legal fees in return for a large amount of money (e.g. $6,325) which apparently you are entitled to because Banks have been overcharging you for transactions and purchases made over the years (LOL!). You can even hear background noise from their makeshift call centre (probably someones garage).
The caller rings you and has your name and address (don't know how they got these details). They ask for your DOB to verify yourself and then ask how you would like money paid to you (cheque, bank account) and to which bank you want the cheque paid to.
You are given a reference number and asked to call a supervisor on telephone number 02 8091733, to claim your money. Once you call this number they advise that someone will arrive at your home to hand over a cheque to you, but you must show a form of ID first. Then finally, they ask that you go to the post office to deposit money for legal costs before you get your cheque.
I played along with the scam up to this point, then told them I would go to the police before I paid money for legal costs. They hung up pretty quickly after that!.
Please be cautious about offers that sound too good to be true and do not provide ANY personal details such as DOB or Bank details.

My mum was scammed by someone purporting to be Max Lewis. She was told the same story, that she was owed $6325 by the Tax Department and that she had to go to the post office straight away to get a Western Union form so that the lawyer involved in her case could get paid $250. Hope this low life gets caught!

Told the same story as above that I was owed an amount of $6325 and the Federal Govt "reclaims department" would send a bank cheque in 2-3 days. I was given an ID number and told to ring that phone no. When I did not ring she called me back an hour later and I told her that this was a scam, which she denied and when I told her off she just said ok and hung up.

This is so annoying, this lady by the name of Norma Stuarp is calling people in Brisbane. I just rang her and told her she is an idiot and should stop calling people. It is a blunt scam. I just wish they would get caught. She does make some stupid stories up that you can't even understand her when she talks.

Just had the same scammer ring here...ditto all the above even the same amount of "refund" as you guys. I refused to give account details and opted for the "cheque"...and yes I had to go to the local P.O. and fill out a Western Union form to deposit $300.00 for "lawyer's fees". When I insisted on being given the company's name and contact details, naturally the request was refused. Upon telling him that I thought this was a load of bullsh*t....he proceeded to tell me I was a load of bullsh*t and he hung up.....He initially introduced himself as "Keith Rankin"

SCAMMERS. Exactly same experience as previous comment. I smelt a scam when the caller "Stave Martin" with a very heavy Indian accent at first told my wife and then me the same story. Caller asked my wife for her bank details but I insisted all they had to do was to just send a cheque to our home address. Each of us was to receive $6,325. At first they were going to pay my wife then they were prepared to pay me Steve Martin (!?) ... even the scammers have a sense of humour
When I asked what government dept the "refund" was from, all I was told is the Australian Federal Government ... !!??. No details of what department and exactly what for.
I was told to phone (02) 8091 7353 immediately and talk to Max Lewis, Norma Steward or Keith Rankin to finalise the cheque payment.
