My mum received a call apparently from ATO and I called back on (02) 8073 4471. They did not appreciate my call (a few of them one after the other) and I was silent and one of them lost his cool asked who the f.... I was and hanged up :) Gave them a dose of their own medicine.

Same call on April 7th recorded on my answering machine. My phone caller id indicated an overseas number at the time of call. The woman had a slight Anglo-Indian accent and gave that same rubbish (02) 8073 4420 number to make her call sound "official". What a shame inbound overseas calls do not display the number so we could track these scumbags down and put them in jail.

For anyone worried about calls from the ATO, here is a web address of the ATO about scams and also a message from the ATO about who to call. https://www.ato.gov.au/Media-centre/Media-releases/Malicious-phone-scam-targets-taxpayers/
If people receive a call from the ATO and are concerned about providing their personal information over the phone, they should ask for the caller’s name and phone them back through the ATO’s switchboard on 13 28 69. If people think they may have fallen victim to a phone scam, contact the ATO on 1800 060 062 (8.00am–6.00pm, Monday to Friday).

Same as all the above. Called back but number didn't answer. Was pretty anxious for the rest of the night.

Claim to be an officer attached to Australian Taxation Office. Some talk of serious allegations and criminal investigation. They request a call back on this number.

Female voice, I failed to remember her name, stated she was from the ATO and there was audit pending due to criminal activities being reported against me and to call the number she read out asap, which also came up on my caller ID. I didn't bother calling back as the ATO don't conduct themselves in this manner.

Had clients ring me today saying the same comments as above. The caller said if they hang up they will be arrested in 30minutes. The number is a computer generated number & doesn't answer if rung. The caller also said he was calling from ext 101 (ATO extensions have 5 digits)

Christine Watson (purported name of caller) rang to say that I owe the tax department $54000 and that I can pay $7600 to offset payment and delay arrest. I was told that they had sent previous paperwork about 6 months ago. I was told that they would negotiate the amount I paid. When I declined they hung up after saying the police would be at the residence in 45 minutes to 60 minutes with an arrest warrant

I hope your client hung up on them. The ATO does not act in that manner and you can't be arrested for non-payment of debts - we no longer have debtors prisons. Is just a scam.
