Returning the phone call is greeted by a message service purporting to be from Westpac bank "Westpac is committed to helping you understand how credit reporting reforms impact you...".
I answered a further phone call from the number and they asked to confirm that they were speaking to [my name], which I did. They asked twice and then they hanged up. The call sounded like it originated from the typical overseas call centre calls we've come to expect from many large organisations, including banks.

Called Westpac directly on their General Enquiries line and asked if the phone number (02) 8053 7857 was theirs, and they checked and advised that it was not, and have reported it to the fraud team. They also advised that the number should be blocked.

I have now had 26 calls from this number They never leave a message it’s just harassment

This number calls 4or 5 times a day, if I answer, they hang up. If you redial the number you get long recorded message about financial services Westpac then transfers you to a waiting line.
They are calling an old landline that I never give out as it is for emergencies and can’t block the number. It is getting very annoying and bordering on harassment. I believe it is a scam to get account information.

I received a call from this number today claiming they were from Westpac - after they began asking me to confirm details I terminated the call after telling the girl that Westpac do not contact me in this manner, I then rang Westpac and they confirmed it is not one of their numbers.

I am getting daily calls from this number and similar ones - all start (02) 8053 but last digits change. Today it was ending 7848 (not 57) They seem to have a bank of similar numbers they use. I am blocking every one.

I get this call at least 3 times a day from 7am to late at night some say it's westpac bank the problem is I don't have account with them so I will not give them any details

Called my mobile phone and didn’t leave a message on it

I have been getting calls from this number multiple times a day - I have never had my number listed in 20 years and haver never given it to anybody. This is obviously fraud.

Caller: Bullying charity

Got a call from this number asking for donations for a bullying charity. Sounded very wierd and pre recorded, could have just been the sales person but when I responded they said "uh hu" and started on with the spill mid sentence which seemed like they had just recorded the best response to any reply.

Caller: Obviously a call center from OS. Said it was Westpac Bank

Said they needed to review my banking account to make some offer. I said please don't abuse me. I refused to give them any info. then hung up, blocking their number.

Not sure who it is, but I figure if it's important they would leave a message.
Going by what others have said above I'm not going to answer

Said they were from westpac and wanted to confirm my details (DOB etc). I hung up and they rang straight back saying that we got disconnected. I said “No, I hung up on you, I am not discussing bank details over the phone with anyone”. They offered to give me an employee number. I said I don’t care I am not dealing with someone over the phone in regards to banking details. SCAM alert!
