This number called me. I picked up and they hung up. Luckily as I would have given the scum a mouthful of abuse.

Caller: A man The first thing these scam callers do is confirm that their information is correct, they'll ask if you are the person they have on their list.
Just refuse or hang up, it's 100% a scam call.

Got a call from this number today but the lady on the other end hung up after a minute or so without asking for any info. I suspect they were about to ask for further details but for some reasons didn't proceed... Sounded like a scam to me.

I don't pick up calls from landlines I don't know so didn't pick up this one and then googled the number and found this page. Thanks to everyone who reports these types of calls, it helps those of us who are trying to avoid being scammed.

Caller: Scammer Phishers pretending to be Optus. Obviously Have links somehow/hacked into Optus accounts knowing if your contract has expired, and can copy your phone number (see other responses on this page). Try to get personal details (passport, credit card, drivers license etc), then are able to steal your phone number as a cover. Suprised the Aus gov/Optus haven’t stopped these guys yet.. evidently going on for over a year now! The posters on here talking about it being legit are obviously the scammers. Think about it- why would you report a number on a complaints website without a complaint, talking about your Optus deal?

Came up as a 'Potential Fraud' number. I let it ring out, expecting that if it was legit they would have left a message to contact them. No message left. Blocked.

Caller: Optus sales team Cold call stating they were calling all the existing optus customers and asking if they wanted to update their plans. I was a bit suspicious and googled the number and found this, so I stalled for a while and read through the comments. The guy on the line was super friendly, and verified he was from optus by sending a text to my phone that was in the same conversation as all my previous optus messages. Ended up saving me $10 a month on my phone bill, and doubled my data so I can't complain. If you're thinking its a scam I don't blame you at all, I was very suss initially, but once the optus texts and emails came through it was clear the fella was from optus

Caller: No idea If it’s an Aussie accent claiming they are from Optus, that should be enough to sound the alarm.

Caller: gemma from optus hey - definitely not a scam. Was a kiwi girl at other end of line that had some basic account details of mine and wanted me to clarify my year of birth. I got uncomfortable cos I'd been ported years ago when someone called my family to clarify my year of birth, then used that to swap my Optus account (dumb that I didn't swap over after this, I know). Anyway it's been years with no issue. When I got this call yesterday and she asked for my year of birth I told her I was uncomfortable giving it out, and she was cool about it and said since I'd resigned in the last year (which is true) that there was probably no need to try and sell me something and let me go. I followed up with Optus via their website chat for customers, and they confirmed both the woman's name and time of the call. Not a scam. Just sh*tty customer service training lol.

Caller: SCAM SCAM SCAM!! Number appeared to be (02) 8049 0847. Perfect English speaker, loads of information about the account. Gives your day and month for birthdate and asks for year to check. Sends you a link to approve change in contract (I got suspicious at that point and checked on this website). Called Optus, and they said there is no record of them calling me today, so Scam.
