Interesting information about the legality of market research/sales calls. I've received 4 phone calls from them today (Luckily my phone was turned down low and I missed most of them). When I did answer the person they asked for is the false name I use for sites I'm not sure about. Must remember to not give out my real number next time.

Asked me if I was (my name). I said I was and they promptly hung up.

Apparently because I have a pre-paid plan on a basic phone I am unable to block a particular number. I have reported it to Telstra who require me to answer the calls and record times and dates and report back to them - hardly practical when you are at work all day. I have had over 50 calls from this number over a few days. I finally tried telling the caller that I was having the number traced and (touch wood) they seem to have dried up.

Why?? And Why???

Just block them! Also read out the legal code mentioned above to them!

They are at it again ... to my mobile I thought we have the technology to stop these nuisance calls ... I just don't answer landlines that show a number that I don't recognise ... just as well I don't buy lottery tickets:)

Annoying as hell. And I am on the Government's do not call list.

I have lodged a complaint with the do not call people as I am on the do not call register.

Phoned me 6 times today from 2 different numbers. No one there when I answer and a recording when I call back saying they will ring me again.

called me 10 times so far today. on a weekend do they have a life

ring 3 or 4 times a day and. just hang up

They just called again and hung up as soon as I answered.

So now they will sell my phone number as a number that answers (must be worth more) and I will be harassed forever

If you answer, then they know you are a valid phone number. Too late for me, because I have answered before, they will never stop harassing me, then they will sell my number with whatever details they have collected eg. Male or Female voice answers etc
