Just had a call from these people, also someone called Ron Williams. Wanted me to log on and get connected tom clear what he said was a problem with my computer. Of course I did not. These people need reporting to the police. Surely this sort of activity must be illegal.

my mother just had this call... says he was from windows technical support, name RON WILLIAMS... she went along with it because her computer had been playin up and she assumed it was a legit call, until he wanted credit details and she said no.. he then began verbally abusing her, saying she is to blame for wrecking others computers and then half of her computer was wiped off.. I rang the number back and spoke to him and abused him back, it felt much better lol... so BEWARE..

I work in a computer retail store, have had multiple reports from customers now regarding this. They claim to work on behalf of microsoft and various other large companies. They state they have found a maulicious virus on your computer and are offering support to remove it. Will ask you to view things like windows event viewer and prefetch and state that this is virus evidence. They then will proceed to navigate you to www.supportonclick.com to download a file to enable them to access your computer for "support". Then you will be prompted to download another file for which the reply is it merely confirmation you grant access to the system, which no doubt it is, but for fraudulent means. From my understanding there is no way that someone can detect a virus to a specific ip address and then call you on your personal home phone like that. Not without fraudulent means atleast. Have called crime stoppers and they told me they are aware of the problem??? Basically they try to access your computer fraudulently. Never allow anyone to access your this way even if you are confident it's from a trusted source.

Also... calls from a landline are unable to connect which says to me that they are attempting to jack into your cellphone if you are to call from it by using an automated answering system or atleast pre-recorded to get you to enter in the correct information to access you cellphone? Dodgey.

I received a call a couple of days ago. Alerted by (1) delayed connection (2) foreign accent (Asian) (3) said he was from the "Windows Technical Department" which was the final alarm bell as I do not have internet. Requested his phone number which he said was Sydney (02) 8014 8229 and then I promptly cut off his call. Definitely a scam

Had a call on home phone from "Mark" today claiming same as the previous reports "please turn on your computer and follow my simple steps to check settings to make sure that your XP or Vista is not affected by a very serious virus". He gave me the 02... phone number and said I could log onto supportonclick.com to validate. Instead I called my local retailer who confirmed this is a scam. MS would not call their multitude of clients individually to check for problems! Please beware of the cold caller

My mother in law received a phone call from this number. The area code indicates that it is from Sydney Australia. The person on the other end of the line claimed to be from "windows" and that they had received error reports from her computer and that they know it is running slowly and they would like to fix it. She knows nothing about computers and because she has seen error messages pop up on her screen (which happens from time to time with everyone) she assumed that this person was legitimate. She didn't offer any further information though and asked if her son could phone back instead, which is when they gave her the number to phone back.Further google searches for this number have revealed that it is a scam, they eventually try to charge you money to fix your computer. Hang up on them if you receive a call from this number.
