Called with Indian sounding accent (supposedly from telstra) & claimed there was a problem with our phone line causing havoc with internet in the area. He claimed we had changed our IP address & unless we do as he instructed our nbn would be cut off within 20 minutes. Unfortunately, the night before I had installed a new modem, and father in law thought I had wired up something incorrectly. Luckily, he told them, he would get me to ring them back. With this, the caller got quite aggressive & got hung up on. I haven't rung them back & guess what? No problems, nothing cut off. TOTAL SCAM! About time these lowlife scumbags did something useful with their lives.

Caller: random fella calling himself Albert Johnson repeated calls from people claiming to be Telstra's technical department saying there is a critical error in the main server. They were clearly in a call centre given the background noise. I'm not with Telstra and they are asking me to open my devices and give them information. I was naturally pretty suspicious and clarified with Telstra who confirmed this was a scam.

The lady with foreign accent said she was from Telstra ringing about slow internet connection. Plenty of voice noise in the background and she was difficult to understand. I told her that Telstra informed me that Telstra would not make such calls. She insisted that she indeed was from Telstra and that I could verify the call by ringing (02) 8007 3407. The number she called from displayed on the Calling Number Display was 02182547879 which is a very strange number combination for Australia, even as mobile number.
