tried to say I was in accident

I called back number (02) 8006 8212 rang 3 times then goes to busy tone.

Called saying I had been involved in a car accident

Second time someone called, telling me they had information from the police or insurance company that I was involved in a car accident. Too bad I wasn’t, don’t even have a car. When I asked what sort of a scam the call was and whether they thought I was stupid to go for it, the guy on the phone told me ‘yes, you are’. I thought that justified my ‘f... off, scammer’ response.
What sort of a scam is this that is being run from this number??
