I got one yesterday/today same story exactly 5248 owing to me - i refused to give my bank details and asked for a chq, which they said i would receive within 5 bus hours, then they proceeded to tell me that i had to go to the post office to pay 199 - at that point i hung up on them

trying to trace this number to see if its a scam or not should be a government number

I had the same today, they will reimburse banking fees.
I needed to ring the number to confirm my identity and would get the cheque in 24-48 hours.

They say the address is 123 Pitt St Sydney, sounds a bit scamie !

I received on just now 4/10/12. Said he was from the Federal Government and that I was owed some thousands of dollars. I thought quickly about it following t call in which I provided a PO Box number unfortunately. I rang my bank and they are aware of what happened andhopefully will look after attempts at banking withdrawals carefully. As my telephone number is silent it is difficult to know how it was obtained. The caller was also aware of my name when he actually rang. I don't know how he knew that either.

same as above. always go with your gut feeling. i laughed when he said his name was sam. saying i had to deposit 199 into an acc at the post office before i can get my check. also saidca lady called lisa would drop off the cheque.

I received an overseas phone call saying Telstra owed me money and to call this number to receive the cheque. I haven't called it yet. I wonder what the caller gets out of this?!

I received the same call for the same amount. I too asked for a cheque and then asked him(Sam) for his contact details and his date of birth as i thought he sounded like a scam. He then hung up. He said he was from the Department of Justice in Sydney. When I asked if that was a federal or State Department he replied I am in Sydney. Not very bright.

Same as above. When I tried to clarify what the money was for they hung up. All calls from an Indian call centre.

Fed up with calls from this number asking for $199 to receive a cheque of $5248 oweing to me

just received a call from them stating that the government is going to give me a refund due to bank charges etc. not sure if it legit or not, could you please find out?
