Got a call Mon 26th Dec 17:30 2010 advising that they had received virus warnings from my computer.. When I asked for details of the company he - Indian accent - gave the company name as "software support for Pc" for Microsoft, based at 21 George St Sydney on (02) 8006 1200. Uhuh. Of course they wanted me to log on to the computer and follow their instructions. Eventually I told them it was a scam and not to call this number again. I hung up. They rang back immediately and threatened to: "break the phoneline, break the internet connection and destroy the computer". Nasty nasty nasty. They rang back for a 3rd time immediately and we let the answering maching get it. LOWLIFES.

the guys just rang back, and gave me another number to "call them back on" and this number actually works!! (02) 8006 1238/">(02) 8006 1238 (02) 8006 1238 (for googling by others looking for help) spoke to a "Roger" who is the supervisor who gave me this number. He also answered this number when I called back! Clarified their business name as Live Help 4 PC http://www.livehelp4pc.net/ http://www.livehelp4pc.net/index.php?page=contactus (contact numbers)
I'm still of the opinion it's a scam, but it appears very legitimate.

I'm Rascal's son and I have worked in Tech support for over 10 years.
I've heard of various scams like this, most recently one of my best mates got 3 very persistent calls from and Indian voiced man with an Aussie name. He was saying that my friends computer had a virus on it and they wanted him to to allow them to have remote access to fix this.
NEVER let this happen.
A) The only way they would know anything about your computer is if they had some kind of spyware on it. which is illegal.
B) They will often seem to know details about your computer - They're guessing - kinda like cold reading. but using the most common setup and programs that non-tech people use.
C) Best way to trip them up is to ask them for more details about the problem, or how they know. they will avoid this question as hard as they can.
D) Best course of Action is to Thank them for informing you of the problem and that you will have your own tech have a look at it.
In this case, just to be sure my friend scanned his pc with all the tools I provided for him and then called me to have a look just in case. There was absolutely nothing wrong at all with his computer.

yep - I got the same call (Kevin, Indian, from Cyber PC Support on 21 George St, Sydney). Fortunately, I knew from the begining that this was a scam, so I played along for a while. After about 10-15 mins of showing me virus activity "evidence" on my PC, he tried to get me to install TeamViewer, which I didn't. Eventually I told him I knew it was a scam - expecting him to hang up, but he didn't. He stayed on the line for another 5 minutes trying to convince me it wasn't - what nerve!
The Cyber PC Support website looks legit at first glance, but if you inspect it closely, you see all sorts of little signs that it is bogus. (eg. phone numbers are spaced properly, etc). Likewise, there is no whitepages listing for the company.

Boy I wish I'd read these messages before I did as he told me and downloaded TeamViewer! Luckily I didn't totally trust him and googled TeamViewer and found it would give him remote access to my computer. When I queried it he tried to convince me by telling me I could check and gave me the company name as Software Support 4 PC at 22 George st, ph no (02) 8006 1238. It was when I googled that company name that all your information came up. They have a website that looks legit but I asked for details of dates and times that my computer had sent these warning notices and was told I was wasting their time and they hung up. I can't believe I was so stupid, I gave them the password for the TeamViewer program but not the 9 digit ID number. I can't find TeamViewer in the uninstall programs list in control panel but I'm petrified they can still get at me. Can someone tell me if I'm safe, please?
