These people just called my elderly mother. Same deal, owed around $7,000 blah, blah, blah. They knew her address, but not much else. Fortunately she wouldn't give out any other details as she's aware of scammers out there. To reassure her that she hadn't just said goodbye to a little windfall, I called the number she had been given (02) 8005 4762. It rang and rang until answered by a foreign accented man saying he was from the Reclaim Dept. I asked him to clarify and he said it was part of the Australian Dept of Finance. I said I was calling on behalf of my mother and gave him the reference number. He then asked for my mother's name and I said he should know her name from the reference number. He got a bit defensive from then on. I then asked whereabouts his office was located in Australia and he hung up.

Yep same mob tried me today !!! The acct mgr got very sheepish when i asked if this was a scam !!! Reporting number to the ACCC !

claiming to be from federal government claiming i was owed over $7000 . got it all on tape they thought i was roger burns from epping. didnt ask me for money

They're still at it. Had a call an hour ago. Love their 'call back to Account Manager' line. Unfortunately that would convince the more gullible.

Another funny scam

They called my friend so I called them back had them on the line for half hour they gave me an address and where happy for me to come see them 123 pit st very funny I thought

Same as above they have my name& address, wanted my dob & preferred bank to send cheque to me, I had to ring back within 24 hrs. gave me 3 aussie names, blocked my number & rang to see what response I got all foreign accents , Beware a real scam!!!!!

Just another scam alright but unfortunately I gave my birth date......don't know why. Any ideas how to stop them calling back as they have rang 3 times now in the past 20 minutes telling me to ring this number and I have said that I was not going to call the manager on that number or any other number. ???

I just got a call on my home phone from a foreign bloke who told me that I had been approved by the Australian Government for a refund of overpaid bank charges of $7268..... His name was John Anderson (hahaha yeah right).. a reference number, an address in Sydney and a phone number and person to call back to "authorize" the release of my money. His bosses names are: Gary Smith, Katherine Douglas and Cheryl Swann.. the number he gave me is: (02) 8005 4762... He did NOT however, ask for me to send any money.. so he must have known I was onto him!!

I tell them that Ganesh is not going to be happy with them for taking money from people.

Got the same call but they had what they thought was my surname and my address. They didn't ask for money but wanted my date of birth and my preferred bank for the payment of the bank cheque. In closing they asked what first name should be put on the cheque. So they think they have my name and address and DOB and bank. But I won't be calling any of the 3 managers whose names were given to me to speak to on this number so I guess I won't be getting those $7000+ that I am owed :) and I won't have to pay $199 into thin air either.
These people are evil so it's worth stringing them along...perhaps in that time you can divert them from calling a more gullible person.

They ask you to send them a $199 Western Union money transfer through Australia Post to them so that the overseas lawyer can make a claim and retrieve this money owed and send you a cheque.
DO NOT DSEND MONEY IT'S A SCAM AND YOU WILL NEVER GET A CHEQUE.

Little did he know i am a Sgt of Police and kept him on the line for 25 mins and got some interesting details from him.
