Pretended to be Telstra saying there is an internet problem and tried to get access to my computer.... then rang repeatedly.

Caller: NBN Ryan

Guy called Ryan called and asked my mum to download an app onto her computer and he would call back to check in the next day. Called the next day and was given this number to call back to confirm details. SCAM!

Caller: A man with a strong indian accent

I just got a call from a man who said he was from Telstra and said with NBN coming to our area that we needed to upgrade our connection and he wanted to remotely access my computer. I questioned why I hadn't heard about this previous to today considering he was threatening to disconnect my internet and phone in 24 hours if it wasn't upgraded. He gave me Telstra tech number (02) 8005 1472 and billing phone number 18002596848 when I asked about how I would otherwise go through this process.

"David Miller" from Telstra - wanting to check our modem.
Scam - he hung up when questioned.

Caller: "Telstra"

Same number as above (02) 8005 1472 very insistent.I have trouble with internet so I thought this was genuine: until they wanted me to download some commercial access program. I then hung up and rang Telstra. Because I am not with Telstra they advised me that it was a scam.

As above. Indian accent. When you ask to confirm his identity he gives you the number (02) 8005 1472 and a supposed Telstra employee code (BW2490). Then his friend answers (another Indian) to confirm. Seems to be after remote access so perhaps its a ransomware scam??

If someone with a strangely Indian accent phones you, says they are from Telstra and your Internet is full of viruses and they are going to cut it off tomorrow and can you give them remote access to your computer, it's a SCAM SCAM SCAM. The phone number they are or were calling from is (02) 8005 1472. Ask them if this is their number, they will hang up on you. They are NOT Telstra, and though they variously say their sames are Kevin Parker, Eric Betz and so on, and their address is Miller St North Sydney, Exhibition St Sydney, Exhibition St, Melbourne. I bet they're in Delhi or Mumbai ... that number, (02) 8005 1472 is on Google as lots of queries from people about whether it's a scam ... if you phone the number the ring tone sounds ... not Australian ..... and the person who answers sounds Indian and suss and doesn't want to get the supervisor for you ...BEWARE .....Telstra Unwelcome Calls 1800 805 996, SCAM WATCH 1300 795 995.

Scammer called my 71 year old dad and he got scammed, hopefully not badly still assessing !!

Got a call from a scumbag posing as a Telstra employee, after wasting about 15 mins of his time, he suggested ringing this number to 'confirm' he was with Telstra, needless to say I strung him on a little longer until he got frustrated and hung up. Score 1 for the good guys.

Exact same thing just happened to me today 20.6.17. He wanted to connect me to the new internet. I had thought he might be talking about the NBN so he nearly got me. They are getting that clever.

Harry Christopher ID D133933 called me today saying he was from Telstra technical dept and that there was something wrong with my internet connection. He wanted me to guide me on my computer to fix the problem. I told him I was busy and would call him back later. I said that so I could google the ph number. It is fraudulent and has nothing to do with Telstra. Hope this helps others.

Tried to get me to download login Software

Just got the same call, same reason. Internet connection is really slow apparently, and that i need too stay on the line and go into my settings to help fix it. Just another scam, even my 14 yr old son worked it out. Being i was at work when it happened.

I have had the same call on several occasions. The name given on the latest occasion, today at 14:30 WST, was Michael Anderson. Definitely scam.

Called me today saying they are from Telstra technical department and that there is something wrong with my internet connection. Unless I let them fix it, they will "disconnect" my internet. Gave me employee number and wanted me to verify it on (02) 8005 1472 on my other phone and not to hang up on them. The number given is not officially listed on Telstra website and brought me to this thread. I have let them go and hang up on them.
