Scammer has obviously spoofed this persons phone number so that their number does not appear on my phone.
Anyway, the initial call was a robocall stating that unless I pressed 1 my NBN would be cut off. Since I knew it was a scam I pressed 1.
An Indian woman asked if my NBN was operating at full speed and without any interruptions. I said yes to both.
Then she asked if I had given out my password. I said no.
Then she stated that someone had hacked my NBN connection and was downloading malicious code to my computer. It was causing errors on their servers.
I thanked her and said that I would change my internet passwords. I also asked why were errors on their servers my problem. Shouldn't they have technicians to stop that sort of thing.
Then she seemed to get flustered as the phone call was not going to the script she was using and hung up.
These scammers try to get you to download remote access software (such as www.anydesk.com or www.teamviewer.com) to help them do the remote hack your computer system.
They try to find out what is on the key to the right of the left CTRL key. They usually expect a windows or Apple icon. This lets them know what computer you are using.
I tell them there is a big Red and White Ball. When they ask what computer I am using
I tell them I have an Amiga X1000 Running OS 4.1 (Workbench).
This means that when they ask me to download the remote access software I can tell them that there are no versions of these software programs that would run on my Amiga. This really annoys them.
If they try to get you to download it over a smart phone tell them that you only have an old flip phone and cannot do it.
Never let them into your system. They will download all your passwords bank account details etc and install malware onto it.
Just let them think they are conning you. Keep them online as long as possible. While they are trying to con you they are not doing it to someone else.
