Caller: NBN Scammer WARNING - it's a scam call. Received an automated called from the 'NBN' on our business line. It mentioned something about disruption experienced on our broadband network and to press "1" to speak to a technician. The recording sounded official - the voice of a well spoken female with Australian accent.
The 'technician' you get put through is an Indian in a call centre. We were told that they received an alert on their system of suspicious activity happening to our PC and that someone from the outside appeared to be hacking into it - or something to that effect. After asking what pc we use (MAC v Microsoft) and whether we were in front of it to be 'helped with the issue' immediately, we were prompted to type 'myIPaddress' into the internet search bar and to share what we see.
We never went beyond that moment because the called seemed fishy. We told them we saw their mother humping a cow and hung up.
This call was unsolicited. We never had any issues today. As if the 'NBN' (or any one of the internet service providers) would individually call any one of the million of Australian residents who've already had the network installed!
These calls try to get your IP info and hopefully enough personal details in order to hack your system, steal your identity and money.
Don't be fooled. Do not give any information. If you've picked up the call and can be bothered, just pretend to do what the 'technician' tells you and then when they ask what you see... just have fun with it and then hang up.
We're in WA. The call looked like a legit NSW number. I took a look at the ACCC Scamnet website and this appeared to be a variation on the NBN scam warning posted back in 2018. Same same but different still doing the rounds. Beware.
