Received a call 4/3/19 threatening a legal case being raised against me. The caller didn't identify themselves but spoke in American accented English and demanded a call back to the ATO.

Caller: ATO Scam

Received a call from a "Canberra" number. Voice on the other end was a "male automated" voice telling me he was from the audit office of the ATO and there was a lawsuit against me. (He didn't use my name at any point). The voice said I had to call him back on a particular number immediately, or I would be arrested. I hung up and blocked the number. The immediate giveaway was the computer generated voice!

Received a call. I misssed it but was not expecting a call from Canberra. I suspected a scam and when I checked it was. I had a similar call the other day that I did answer from a man with an English accent saying he was from the Tax office and I had violations which could see me go to gaol. Similar to the comments below.Blocked.

The amazing thing is this number is actually an ATO number, is you call back you actually get the real ATO. But that is an ATO switch number so the ATO will never call you from that number. If trey call you again just hang up

recorded voice saying it was the ATO and I had an income tax violation identified by an informant program. I hung up at that point. This number is a secondary phone i use and is not attached to anything which will relate to anything personal or business taxation related. now blocked the number

Recorded message telling me I have tax violation, then I hung up. Interesting that this is still happening from this number after all this time.

Got three calls from this number yesterday - don't answer unknown numbers, no voicemail left, read this thread, thank you - so many months and they are still operating ? Obviously no-one CAN or CARE to do anything...

I have got a missed call from this number. Glad I didn't answer it and now know it is a scam.

(02) 6216 1111 phoned my husband saying they were from the ATO and to phone them back. SCAM, don't answer the call.....

ATO pretenders... you can call back if you want to waste their time. They don't have any details apart from what you give them.

I missed the call and then dialled the number where I got recorded message from what sounded like a complete genuine person from ato with Aussie accent. She even referred me to the ato website for any information I may need. They are getting good at this.

I am new in Australia and I know that my duty is to do a tax report (also if I have only a pension) one month ago I received a call from them and I called back, but I understood that was not tax office. Yesterday and today I received other 3 calls and I blocked the number. My question is: the number is an house phone that must have an address why police don't stop them?

Did not pick up as it shows as +262 161 111 from a different country, any how find this however ATO website https://www.ato.gov.au/About-ATO/Contact-us/phone-us/ do display this number in the overseas enquires

Caller: Allegedly ATO (scam!)

I missed the call as was with a client - got the recorded American voice threatening arrest - just a partial message as it obviously starts recording when the voicemail answers the call. This is the third different call with different number I've received - the second was an Indian call centre - i just told him i was a lawyer (true) and reporting them to the federal police and ATO (couldn't actually as the number was uncontactable) and hung up on them.

Caller: Lady with an Indian accent

I’v got a call today, in the first place I received a recording (male voice) saying that I have to get in contact immediately with the ATO to avoid fines. I didn’t understand very well. Then, the recording said that if I want to get conecte to the ATO I should press 1. I didn’t press anything and just pases like 3 seconds and they connected me to another call. The lady had an Indian accent. She told me that she is from the ATO and asked how can she help me. I told her that I didn’t call her, that I received a call and then they conected me to her call. And then, she asked for my complete names, I told her no, because I cannot give my names to anyone. She got angry and nervous and starting saying that if I don’t give them my name, they canno check my profile and I might be in risk for prision. I told her, ok I I will hung up the call and I call the ATO directly and the she immediately hung up.

Pretending to be ATO. I answered their first attempt on a private number and the automated message said "blah blah I owe ATO money, to avoid arrest press one" so I hung up. Have received 3 calls from this (02) 6216 1111 since.

Thanks for this thread....do not answer unknown calls anymore because of all the scams......but it was this number+61 61262161111
