Male voice purporting to be from ATO and that I had income tax violoation reported via an informant program, and if I did not respond by pressing '1' to contact someone from the ATO I would be penalised and/or arrested, d*ckhead doesn't realise I'm a retiree and now longer submit anything to the ATO, just like the box head who says he's contacting me regarding an accident I've had, don't look up their stats too well, haven't had an accident in 50 years, there must be some poor saps who get caught though, wish we could stop these calls :(

Does anyone know what the police are doing about this particular scam...
This is at the extreme level of fraud/conn.
The call I got was fairly well done, and I'm guessing people will start falling for it if not already.
To find them the AFP need to run a worm through darknet to access the main incoming exchange servers into the country and trace the phone number back to it's alteration coding within the server before it's encrypted as it goes overseas. Also it may possibly be routing through an international VPN, but that can also be stopped at the phone number alteration coding software. Many countries are able to stop scammers from altering numbers by locating the VOIP software causing the illegal changes within the phone exchange/internet nodes themselves, including Norway, Canada and China. Once found the number can be stopped, and trace software can attempt to track back through the VPN servers they are using, all the way back to the person in Nigeria. lol
Time to get on top of the scams Australia :-)

Received call from (02) 6216 1111 yesterday and today. Didn't answer either call as suspected spam. Checked number on reverse call and notice all these other listings! Know it has featured on TV, but sure some poor people do get caught up in the awful threats apparently made.

Caller: Voicemail purporting to be from ATO. Number shows as ATO number
Received a call same as described. It is the ATO's number. I suppose it's to annoy the ATO as people keep calling them to see if it's genuine. How to they manage to route a number through a genuine ATO number if it's not genuine?

When no-one answered after I said hello, I knew this number was being picked up elsewhere due to the delay ... I hung up, and when I got home, looked it up on reverse phone numbers ... I thought it was a scammer and looking at the responses, I guess I was right !

Scam!!! Confirmed with ATO that it is a scam as ATO does not have records of contacting me.
Another number these scammers have been calling with:
(02) 6216 3444 (which is also a real ATO number)
These scammers are getting smarter

This is coming from a hacker syndicate located in southbank grand in Melbourne, which is run by MICM property/ Central Equity. My phone started getting hacked when I moved into the MICM property and I have been the victim of scams like this ever since.
