Just got the same call - kiss my arse

received an automated call at 10:48am the message is "You need to return the call as soon as possible to my department number (02) 6188 5678, repeat (02) 6188 5678. If we do not receive your call you will face a hard and legal consequences. To avoid legal consequences, you should call us as soon as possible. Good Luck!"

What Department?? Stupid scammer. The message is of threatening nature.

Received call to my work phone, automated message saying I was to be arrested for tax evasion if I did not call them back immediately. Scam.

Tax scam. Nasty message saying he is s police man, not to avoid this call re me being investigated re tax fraud. Have now blocked this number.

Have had this call twice today. Different voice both times.

We've been getting this call at least 4 times a week for the past few weeks. It's very annoying. Is there nothing that can be done apart from disconnecting our phone?

yes got a call from this recorded voice today. Unlike last year when it was a male Indian sounding voice, this time it was a male well educated, slightly British sounding voice. Maybe the scammers think they'll get a better response from someone who sounds Anglo. Australians are more reluctant to deal with Sanjeev from Mumbai.

Recorded message from ATO claiming you have a tax evasion matter and there will be a penalty. Have to called back this number immediately to resolve the matter.

spam call around 9.15 am claiming my a/c had been cancelled & registered letter had been posted to our address. To avoid police involvement phone 61885678 so that my case could be resolved.Is their no limit to this type of scum trying to steal money from old age pensioners? 1106 17

Scam - they also use (03) 8373 8630. It's a recorded message of a male voice with an English accent saying call this number as they are issuing an arrest warrant for tax evasion. If you call the number it goes to an offshore call centre and they answer 'Tax Office'. I got 2 messages on my home phone with the same recorded message but giving the 2 different numbers to call back. It's been reported to the ATO and to Scamwatch.

Received one of these calls about 6 months ago and reported it to the ATO. They confirmed I had no tax complaints. These are very intimidating calls and very distressing for elderly people. Rang this number, but of course no answer. I would like to be able to say this to these people. Just get lost !

They have phoned my very elderly mother, 98 years old, threatening her with tax avoidance several times the last week. She's on a pension. It is upsetting her terribly. I told her ATO would not phone her & it's a scam. It does sound like it is alright.
