They tried to scam me today ( 10/08/15) and I nearly fell for it! Received very intimidating phone call from 2 guys, Leo Cooper and Adam Spencer. Thank goodness I checked their phone number on Google and it was clear it was a scam! I think from the details provided they've hacked into ATO!

I have had 5 calls in the last 2 days ,from this number, claiming to be 'nicki johnson' from the ATO, and that it is concerning a matter of utmost importance. The last 2 calls were computer generated and voiced. I gave reported it to the ATO.

Received a call this morning from (02) 6152 8695 saying I'm under investigation for tax fraud and there's a warrant out for my arrest. The man said his name was Adam Spencer. I was very upset and kept interrupting him as he told me that he did not believe i didn't know as I'd been evading them trying to serve me with paperwork. I continued saying oh my goodness and what on earth is going on as he told me to write down the case number and warrant number. He then started to yell at me to stop interrupting me. I hung up on him after saying I'll just phone the police and give myself to them directly as this is bad enough never mind being yelled at.
I phoned the police and they said its a scam and to make a report on https://www.scamwatch.gov.au

Had a call today but didn't answer as number not recognised and when I called back (02) 6152 8695) said it was ATO and I was being sued etc etc -I asked them to confirm my tax file number but they couldn't so after a bit of "friendly " banter I hung up on them .
I called back later on (anonymously) and said I was the ATO and wanted their address so we could visit them to discuss the matter of their phone calls -address given was 66 Lawn Drive, Adams Landing which is not a real address I don't think then he hung up and said he wouldn't give me his real address.

I had the same call, rang back the number left on my voice (after googling it and finding the above posts) and gave it to the little curry muncher

This is definitely a scam. The ATO does not use Case File Number or have Badge Numbers etc. If they want to talk to you, they use Tax File Number of ABN's and they tell you what department they are from. Also, the ATO does not issue and has no power to issue arrest warrants for failure to pay debts. Debt recovery is a civil, not a criminal matter in Australia. These are Indian and Asian scammers who are calling from overseas.

This is an ATO Scam - the caller sounds very authentic and will provide alot of detail about the "debt". Caller said he was David Marshall, had Asian Accent.

Please just hang up on this guy, or anyone who calls with similar details. Call the ATO on 132861 and check for yourself whether the ATO has attempted to contact you - usually this will be a definitive "no". Whatever you do, don't give them any information, and don't call them back.

yes i got this call and became suspicious. Sadly i bet that this rort will scare older people. Any way I called them out on i being a scam and the gentleman became quite racially abusive and as i was a white person Id stolen things I and others deserved this. Interesting how he was able to deduce this from a phone call

I got 2 calls today from this number (02) 6152 8695 asking me to call Nicky Johnson's hotline regarding 'a matter of importance from the ATO'. It was a computer generated message.

Also start to get call from this number and I search on goggle . Be very careful and do not trust them.

Got one today, told my aged Mother in Law that my wife needed to call, Adam Spencer on (02) 6152 8695, he was from the TAXATION OFFICE (not dissimilar to the Australian Taxation Office). My MIL texted me, as my wife is a full time school teacher & flat out between 8 and 4pm. I called the number, asked to speak to the Adam Spencer (Adam Spencer is a great ABC morning host), funny the Asian guy who answered the phone sounded exactly like the Asian guy Adam Spencer.
Anyway, I said that I acted on her behalf, as I have set it up that way on My Gov. and what could I help him with. Anyway he rattles off a lot of crap with case numbers XXXXYYYY, and says we owe the TAXATION OFFICE $$$, I said which TAXATION OFFICE, then there was some umming & ahhing, I asked him to tell me my wifes Tax File Number, he said that I would have to go to my local tax office to get that number, at that point I said that this was bullsh_t because he has my wifes name and if he was from the ATO he would know her tax file number, at which point he hung up. Then I called him back, and called him scumbag, hung up again, then I called him back again and told him I’m coming over and going to cut his ____ off, then he hung up again……….I can’t figure out why !!!! Thank-you to all those people who have reported on here. The whole thing was fishy but it was also relieving to be able to go online and check that this was the ph no. of a "fake ATO scammer".

Though there were 3 missed calls from (02) 6152 8695, +0261528695, the 4th one happened I picked up and got a shocking message and I am visibly shaken for few seconds that the person was saying in broken English that ATO is doing a criminal investigation on me for evasion. I shot back saying his voice doesnt sound like from ATO and ATO doesnt talks matters like this over phone. I kept quit for some moments then he asked if I have a pen and paper and thats it, he dropped the line.

100% Scam. Reported to Tax Office. They had left a message on my message bank and they pick up if the number is different (Called ID is not known to them). This time it was a criminal investigation and tax fraud ...

I had a nice chat with Adam Spencer today. Informed me that I was being sued, when I asked him where he was from in Australia he hung up, I called back he hung up I changed my phone to private and he answered told him what I thought of him, he told me that he had contacted the police and that they were coming to arrest me lol I am still waiting

I had these ring me twice today with the ATO scam. That I owed money etc. I rang back and as soon as they were not fluent in english I knew it was a scam they hung up on me. Tried to ring them back to tell them I was not that stupid to fall for it... But they kept hanging up on me.

same MO used on my wife, cowards terrorised her, will be calling them regularly and taunting them
