SCAM WARNING!
People are receiving automated voice calls from someone claiming to be from the ATO saying they are about to be arrested for tax evasion and fraud. They claim the police would be arriving with a warrant for arrest and to avoid detention call (02) 6152 8657.On ringing the ATO (ph 132861) to be told it is a scam. The tax office warned that scammers were also sending emails and if you receive an email not to click on the link provided. Be careful people!

We received call this morning in Perth, W.A., dodgy or what !!

I,Ve just got back from 6 weeks away and found similar message on my answer machine. I rang the number but not connected so found this web site on checking it out. What a nasty pervert!

Just had this jerk call. Harassing my mother. Luckily it went to voicemail. She would have fallen for it otherwise.

My mum had the same call from (02) 6152 8657 she is in Perth and is 78. Don't give out any personal information - tax file number.

I notified my local police in case they could nab the caller, who was quite unpleasant.

Yes it is a scam but why aren't the police doing something to trace and stop this man.

Just got one of those calls. No Caller ID but after the threats about police coming to arrest me left above number. Tried to ring and tell him to ****off, but it just rang and no one answered. My home phone doesn't show it's number so maybe they wouldn't pick up.

Got this threatening message this morning. Called ATO to check. ATO always contact by mail for things like that. Do NOT call them back, they will be after personal info they can use for fraud.

I had the same message left on my answering machine tonight. A very angry sounding man! Immediately made me realise it wasn't the tax office!

We just received a message from them today too. Maybe targeting females?

Had the same message-say police at my door if I don't respond"the matter is time sensitive"I believe the end result is identity theft.Don't give out your Tax file number.

Received similar message on our answering machine June 2nd saying he was from the ATO etc..
I too thought it rather strange and decided to investigate the number only to find this website..

Similar to other posts. Number attempts to threaten you with alleged "tax evasion". Had a guy trying really hard to fake an accent, had a good laugh.

yep, I had a call on Friday 29 May and one again today 1st June... I am sure it is a scam. They also left the number (02) 6152 8657 carrying on about ATO and serious nature - total crap

Had the same yesterday in Melbourne ring it back to find engaged. Sick of these calls.

Had same message left this morning and used this web site to confirm my first thoughts that this was a scam. More of an Indian or sub continent accent. Guy signs off with a "have a great day" message after trying to deliver some bad hype. Ha Ha, what an idiot.

We received a call tonight on our answer phone, kind of thought it would be a scam so glad I checked. But if this had been my Dads answer phone he would have probably not realised and been very stressed and most likely followed all the instructions. Thank goodness for this digital age where we can easily check these things!
