I received a voicemail message from a guy on this number (02) 6152 8641 and he said he was Jason O'Connor from the ATO, he said he was investigating tax evasion and I would be receiving a court summons. I rang back and asked him where he was based and he didn't understand my question. I asked for his name and he said he was officer Mike Hargraves from the ATO, I told he left a message saying he was Jason O'Connor. I told him he was trying to scam people and was going to report him to police......he quickly hung up the phone.

Had a call claiming to be the Australian Finance department who have 7403 dollars to refund me. gave me the number they wanted bank details. When I said I'd call in to their office they hung up. Another scam. Why don't the federal police do something I wonder as so many people have reported this scam originating from this number?

Government Finance Dept giving a refund of Bank fees....$7589. Became very irate and elusive when I said that I had reported them to the AFP...COMPLETE SCAM.

I too have been contacted by the scammers saying I have been overcharged $7589 in bank fees. They gave me two names of supervisors - Paul Edwards or Mark Austin.

new scam is they're saying Ive been overcharged $7589 in bank fees and need an account number to send the refund to... Fortunately I use to work in internet fraud and security, and know that no-one calls you about this. If any refund is due, you would get written notification. Dont give any details, dont even confirm if yours are correct (tell them they're wrong and refuse to give new details!)

Got one too same amount same names i reported it to scam watch and told the people at the post office spread the word

Today the persons name was Gary Milton saying that I was owed money from the Commonwealth Bank ($6325) and wanted to confirm how it should be paid - direct to bank or by them sending me a cheque. He actually gave me two names of supervisors for me to confirm - they were Paul Edwards or Mark Austin.

Received a message on my voicemail to say that a court case had been filed against me because I had been audited by the ATO and it was found that I had evaded tax and was up on fraud charges. Rang this guy back, claimed to be Kevin Shaw from the ATO. He appeared to have either a Filipino or Indonesian accent. I gathered this was a scam but let him tell me what he had to, from paraphrasing from ATO rules and regulations, (supposedly), to saying that I would be arrested in front of my family, my business reputation would be ruined, my accounts would be frozen, my assets would be seized, my life would be wrecked effectively. He said that the ATO had sent officers to deliver paperwork regarding this matter, obviously none received by me. I let him carry on to the point where he called me back on my mobile and said I had to go to my bank and withdraw a sum of $9985.00 from my account and I had 45 minutes from when I got in my car to get this money or legal proceedings would begin. I got in my car, drove around the block a few times, all the while having my mobile on speakerphone and having to say "still here" every 30 seconds. He said if the call was to end for any reason, then the police would be at my door within the hour. I eventually pulled up, outside my home, and said to him that I was just going to find the bank now. A few minutes later saying I was at the bank and promptly disconnecting the call. He rang back within seconds to which I turned my phone off. I'm glad I wasted 90 minutes of this guy's time, as he could have done something similar to someone else. Regardless of any reputation the Tax Office may have, I don't think they would be in any way menacing or threatening like this guy was. I'm glad I realised early it was a scam. PLEASE, PLEASE DO NOT BELEIVE THESE GUYS!! They are convincing as some of the stuff they say is plausible. Beware! This could happen to you. Just don't ring them back.

Yep, this time the guy called himself Jeffrey Morgan. ITO, criminal tax evasion and fraud. This is the second one, different name and number, same message. Thank you for this web site so we can check up on these jokers. Will not ring them back.

Yes we just received a call today on our landline from someone saying they are from the ATO and that we are being sued for tax evasion. He gave the number (02) 6152 8641 and said to ring back asap or be charged with a criminal offence. We just looked up this phone number and found this site, so have left our message. Do not ring this loser or give him the time of day. Why cant the police get people like this!!

Had same call a month or so ago - and again this week - both times he leaves the detailed message on answering machine and expects to be called back. I know that the ATO would never call for such a call so knew it was a scam but am concerned about the distress it could cause elderly/others.

Yes it's Sept 3 rd 2015 it's 1.25pm and I just got a msg on my landline from Jason O'Conner saying he was from the ATO in CAnberra and that is was accused of tax evasion told me to call back on (02) 6140 3485... what a scare good to know it is a scam....

He rang my 84 year old mother today and scared her that much she nearly ended up in hospital!! Someone needs to pay this loser a visit...

I received a voicemail from a guy that sounded indian. He claimed that I'm being sued for tax evasion, and if I don't get back to him by calling the number (02) 6152 8641, he will unleash all ATO hell upon me. This dude is a total f-wit. He's probably being chased by the ATO himself for making money off gullible people and not paying enough tax for it.
Dear Lord above, please let all naive and gullible people google that phone number, find this message and understand that the ATO does *not* call people at 8pm out of the blue, before emailing, SMS:ing, and sending a message through the MyGov portal. Tax evasion my buttocks.. I just filed my taxes without any hassle, so that's whassup!
