Appears to be the same scam as reported here under the number (02) 6152 8628. It was a message from "Office Jason O'Connor from ATO" suggesting that there is a warrant for my arrest and I must call back on this number. Sounded very much like a recorded message being played back onto my answering service.

Also seems to be a scam related to (02) 6152 8684. I was told the DPP were investigating me for tax evasion/tax fraud and if I didn't phone back, I would be arrested. Saying I wanted to certify she was who she said she was, I found out by asking this ladies for her full name, department and the DPP switchboard number that I must have rattled her as she hung up on me. I then rang the DPP switch where the employee said that she had received a number of calls related to the same thing and that THE PHONE NUMBERS THESE SCAMMERS ARE RINGING FROM ARE...NOT....I REPEAT...NOT DPP PHONE NUMBERS. She advised that the DPP DO NOT HANDLE ATO MATTERS EVER. This is a SCAM. I was advised to call my State Police to report this which I will be doing.

Same thing happened to me today. Thanks for the original post. A young guy with an asian/american accent (Philippines?) calling on behalf of Jason O'Connor from the ATO, the Australian Taxation Office. There is a warrant for my arrest as we had failed to receive a registered post item. I'm a bookkeeper and BAS agent and I have a number of clients who have dealings with the ATO so I wasn't sure if this could be related to one of their matters having got (badly!) out of control. I was worried but pretty doubtful as in all my years of bookkeeping, I'd never heard of the ATO having an arrest warrant. But I called back anyway. Gave my phone number and they came back and asked were they speaking to (my partner's surname i whose name the phone number is registered). As my partner is entirely tax compliant, I knew it had to be a scam. There is no way there could be any dealings with the ATO that had escalated out of control so I asked what it was regarding. He got a bit angry with me and said it was very serious and he should speak to my partner at once. I said there was no way he could be calling from the ATO and I believe it is a fraud call. He hung up at once. I then called the local police (I thought they should know that someone is calling people threatening arrest) and they said to call the ATO. I called the ATO and they logged my feedback, and I read similar items on the ATO fraud page. It's a shame that there isn't a department in either police or ATO whose job it is to call back and pretend to be a punter and follow through the money trail by doing whatever they were told to do. I'm almost tempted myself to see what they'd ask me to do. Probably post money to an address in another country by Western Union, and that surely would be traceable and actionable? In any case, in my extensive experience, the ATO doesn't ever leave a message that tells what they're calling about (it would be against privacy regulations as they can't prove who will get the message), and they certainly don't identify you by your phone number. Total scam. Cheers. K

we have got home and have a voice message from officer Johnson oconnor saying house under survellience and possible warrant out for arrest. Phoned tax office and they agreed might be a scam as no issues with our tax. Left us very shaken.

These people are hanging up on me for calling back private They said I am getting arrested for screwing up my tax from ten years ago. That when I realised it a lie because I never put one in ten years ago

Do not give this number any personal information and report it to the ATO. When I answered the phone it was an automated message, advising that I was being audited and had a set time frame from the time the call was answered to respond. It directed me to press 1 for more information. I hung up straight away and called the ATO Scam line 1800 008 540. They have reported it to the police.

Returned from a trip to find an answering machine message apparently left several weeks beforehand. Asked me to return call on (02) 6152 8636. From the content and context of the message I immediately deduced it to be a scam, which this Reverse Lookup site readily confirms. Features of the message were consistent with other recent entries here, including: mention of Jason O'Connor; South African accent; parcel/letter returned; house under surveillance. I certainly will not be returning the call.

I'm an elderly senior who had just come back from hospital and heard a garbled message on my private landline answering machine. Man sounded Sth African saying there was an arrest warrant out and house under surveillance and must call back on (02) 6252 8636. I was left very shaken, worried, raised blood pressure + heart arythmia. Thank you so much for this reverseaustralia phone site and everyone's messages saying it is a scam.
