recived the same call ,saying the were from the ATO,and that there would be dire consiquesces if I did not respond, took no notice, and posted a report on scam watch with the number (02) 6145 0134,what get me is if we are all aware of this and we all have the number and the number has been reported, even if only by me,then why is this same number stil allowed to be used to do this ,if you or I rang people up and made threats of dire consiquences then I'm sure we would be shut down likety split

Same as a lot of these other posts. Female American voice leaves message on answering machine claiming "serious lawsuit" filed against me, "time sensitive" matter and to "avoid legal consequences" need to call this number back immediately. SCAM by SCUM who need a semi-trailer load of Karma dumped on them!

Got a text message saying a serious lawsuit had been filed against my name, which is funny since I've been on a medical pension for 16 years

I never answer numbers I don't know but this time they left a message. They will try anything to get you in. It is good we have forums like this to reinforce the fact it is a scam.

Received a recorded message 20/4/17. American accent, same dire circumstances, with Good Luck at the end. So they are still at it.

Same as above. Why doesn't the ATO take action? The telecommunications ombudsman? Really and truly.

I have just received the same (recorded) message, sounded very phoney. The "good luck" after the threat was an amazing touch!

My mother got this call today from this number claiming it was the ATO, an 'officer' said there was a warrant out for her arrest and said she was tax avading. She then burst into tears in a panic, later on he verbally abused her also causing her to cry again and he eventually said "f*** you, you son of a b****" and hung up all because she knew it was a scam. We decided to call them back on a different phone which he then thought it was another lady - we played along to find out they said we owed $6998 and if we didn't pay it within an hour action would be taken, they said we had to go to our nearest Coles/Woolworths and pay for $6998 worth of 'steam card' vouchers (gaming cards) and then to call them back and give them the codes so they can retrieve the money. They also said "make sure if someone asks why you are buying this many vouchers that it is for family or friends". Also various times told my mother to shut up and be quiet whilst he spoke.

Had a message to call this number as there was serious legal action about to be taken against me. Curious, I called and when I questioned the validity of his claims he abused me - Telling me to "shut my F**king mouth you silly Bi**h!!" Well let's just say he didn't get the opportunity to open his "silly mouth" again!!

The ATO does call you about debts and outstanding lodgment of BAS and Income Tax Returns. Whoever says they don't are kidding you. If you actually speak to a person claiming to be from the ATO and you are unsure of their identity, get their name and look up ATO number in you local phone book. Call and ask for this person. If not known, ask for the personal tax area and ask if any notes on file. I have done this previously and turned out they were trying to contact me.
