Caller "John Matthews" purporting to be from the Australian Taxations Office. Its a scam, don't bother with it

John is a very busy caller same spiel on the answering machine reverse number is very useful

Yep, I got the same message today too ! At some point, these scammers will find "some sucker"... unfortunately. The ATO never seem that "desperate" in the tone of voice that was used. To All, please be aware, this is a TOTAL scam !

We have just received this message, and will ignore it after reading these comments. Thought it was weird that I was not addressed personally .

Rang my mum told her she owed $8000 in unpaid taxes, knew her name, address. Mum asked John Mathews 'is this a scam?'
He said ring the police and hung up on her.

Same message as above...saying he had legal documents from ato and cdpp and to get my attorney to Contact asap. What a load of shizz

Received the same message, absolute illegal scam, did not address anyone by name

Received the "John Matthews" Director of Public Prosecutions message today on my machine as a recorded message about tax prosecution or some krap. It's a different number but appears to be the same message others received. I'm ignoring and any legit notifications from the ATO can come thru my accountant or by post. What are they hoping to achieve from this ? Are they making money one the STD charges ?
