I had a voice mail message on our mobile phone , saying it was the Australian tax office , trying to contact the recipient. Left name of the Mike Davis, they said it was regarding a Tax audit and was to ring (02) 6100 3838 asap .

ATO scam, requested we return call. Hard sell, jail mentioned, frozen accounts, cards etc. Illegal to talk to other parties and tried to keep us on the line to pay a non existent tax bill.
Mike Davis got more and more aggressive, looked to have money paid to Bank West, then changed to ANZ Bank with threat unless paid legal action to continue. Interestingly, no bank cheque noting this would need to be to ATO (cash only requested), with accounts details eventually disclosed as personal name.
Looking to keep you on line so you can not verify anything and also says that illegal to talk to anyone about the case.
Convincing, however conduct is aggressive and not in line with any of the ATO protocols.

we had a voice mail message on our house phone , saying it was the Australian tax office , trying to contact the recipient ? but left no name of the person they trying to contact, they said it was regarding a Tax audit and was to ring (02) 6100 3838 asap .
I thought it was strange them not asking for a certain person and just saying this is for the recipient ,(that could be anyone ) and tried to look up the number they asked to be rang back on and no results was found . I think if it was the Australian tax office the number would be on search

Call purporting to be from ATO, the third such claim from similar phone numbers over the last week, claiming impending disaster if we don't call back.

Was claiming to be from Health Department. Apparently coz I qualify under a $3500 once of payment he tried to get my personal information to make the payment. I told him that the government have my bank details with Centrelink and Medicare. So thank you if I get the money; they know where to send it. He got angry at my response. But was asking for my bank details, card and bank customer number. lol. Nice try mate. He said they are calling back ok the 11th June. So I need to answer. Will have to visit the police and put him on speaker.

I got a phonecall from a guy saying he was from the health centre in Canberra saying Im about to receive $3,500 from the ATO about unpaid fees

Dodgy call from this snoozer today and not yet called back. May call just for sh*ts and giggles!

I got the same message twice, on 2 consecutive days, with 2 different phone numbers: (02) 6100 3838, (02) 6100 3390. SCAM!!!

Definately a scam, reviewed with ATO

Scammer's accent was predominantly English (maybe a hint of South African). Transcript: This message is intended for the recipient. This is Mike Davis calling you from the Audit Division of Australian Taxation Office and this call is in regards to your tax (pause) audit. We have tried reaching you at your mailing address but never heard back from you. So kindly return a call an hour or in department??? That's (02) 6100 3838. I repeat it's (02) 6100 3838. Do not intend to disregard this message as the issue at hand is urgent and time-sensitive. Thank you and have a good day.

Happened to me too and i reported it to the Australian Tax Office. They thought it was a scam.

Had this same recorded message from the ATO but the number is not the ATO. SCAM!

Received a call from this number today, talking about an ongoing tax audit (which isn't happening) and saying that I'd not replied to mail enquiries. Fairly threatening, e.g., "do not disregard", "urgent", "time-sensitive issue", etc. Message is automated, addressed to "The Recipient"; i.e., the machine doesn't know who you are. Ignore it!

Same as below. Voicemail left - text to voice stating that the recipient needed to call Mike Davis back on (02) 6100 3838. Called "Mike" a heavily accented gent who proceeded to tell me that the Sheriff had tried to serve me a subpoena on several occasions regarding debt as a result of tax evasion. He offered Case ID#s and his Federal Batch Verification #. I advised that I needed to call the ATO myself to confirm the legitimacy of the call. He then said "Sure" and hung up.

It's a scam. I'm good with the ATO

I had a message from the ATO (NOT) they asked to call (02) 6100 3838 back

I rang and asked for an email confirming he's from the ATO and he hung up on me.

Yes I had the same call today, saying about a Tax Audit because of our change of address etc and didn't received appropriate paperwork, to call ASAP, it is BOGUS, Taxation Dept never phone you they always send a letter with a reference number etc.

Possibly a scam. Leaves an automated voice message calling from the ATO - audit division. Talks about an 'emergency' situation if you don't call back.
